Solidworks issue with Navigator and Sub-part toggle

Post by christo76 »

I have just changed jobs and installed my Space Navigator on my new computer. I am running into a major issue that I think is caused by the "Toggle Sub-Part Movement" function.

When building an assembly and I bring in a new component and trying to rotate the view to select specific faces, if I click on the "loose" component first then rotate, only the new component rotates. I have to escape out, or hit rebuild in order to get back to the main model. And then I have lost the face. Some times it doesn't want to escape out (give me a message that its busy during an operation) and greys out all commands and can cause solidworks to crash.

It also occurs if I have the part partially fixed and I click on the tree to find a specific instance. If I try to rotate the assy to see the part, just the part moves and I get stuck again.

I have tried to click off the "Toggle Sub-Part Movement" button, but it doesn't seem to have any actual effect. off or on it operates the same.

I am in Solidworks 2008 sp4.0, windows XP, 3dXware version 3.6.11, Driver version 6.6.4, Firmware version 3.18, SpaceNavigator.

No help or ideas? This is very frustrating and I am thinking I will have to just get rid of the Navigator, which sucks because that is how I am now used to moving things.

Hi christo76,

Sorry for not replying any sooner.

Check if the option "Parts Moving on Select" is enabled. This option in found in the "3Dcontrol Properties" panel (menu "3Dcontrol", "Properties...") and should is disabled by default.
