Turn off the SpaceMouse Enterprise screen due to inactivity time.

Post by AngelSing »

Greetings, is there any configuration that maybe I miss where I can set a time to turn off the screen of the SpaceMouse Enterprise when it is not being used for a while, for example to turn it off after 15 minutes of not using the mouse. I sleep in the same room where I have the pc and sometimes I have to leave it rendering a project while I sleep but the display light in the dark is quite strong and it is quite annoying to have to enter every time to the settings to lower and raise the illumination.

If you lock your user session (Start menu > user name > Lock), the driver will turn off the display and the illumination under the sensor cap.

Windows has a keyboard shortcut to lock the session: Windows key + l

I understand, the problem is that I can not lock or suspend the computer because I am rendering on it while I sleep. and as I said the light is quite strong when I turn off the screens and the light in the room. precisely I have turned off all the LEDs on my PC.

Are you positive the system cannot be locked? Normally, locking is independent from sleep or suspend.

On my System, in a network with an M1 Mac,
it is very likely that the PC awakes from time to time.
I switch off the Monitor to not get bothered but I can't
switch off the Enterprise.

As for the M1 Mac Mini, it also will not really awake from
sleep, but when doing things like Time Machine Backup,
somehow it will awake the Monitor from sleep.
Just for a few seconds and the Monitor will go to sleep
again.
(But as a non-OLED standard IPS LED Minitor will not stay
black when it shows an active black screen, I also switch it
off if necessary.)
I assume the Enterprise would activate its Display too in such
situations.

For now to avoid unwanted Enterprise Display, I would need to
open its driver settings and dim its display, but redo the same
procedure in case I need the Enterprise again.

On Linux, Enterprise usually does not start at all - but not always.
And when it does it will keep display activated.
And AFAIK in the past even did keep its Display on after shutting
Linux down, because the USB hubs stays active.
(But I am not 100% sure)

So I vote for a hardware switch :)

I like the idea of a timeout.

Mentioning a "hardware switch", there is a Driver function to toggle the LCD: Driver_LCDToggle
You could, for example, assign it globally to one of your SME buttons. Then it would always be there.
Much easier than opening the GUI.
