Issue with CadMouse Pro Wireless: Zoom and Scroll Reversing Sporadically

Post by dudinger »

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with my CadMouse Pro Wireless and I'm hoping someone here might be able to offer some advice or solutions. Every time I use the scroll wheel or zoom in any program, I encounter interruptions where the zoom or scroll direction temporarily reverses. This happens randomly and affects my workflow significantly.

I Updated all drivers and firmware to the latest versions and tested the mouse both wireless and wired.

I recently upgraded to Windows 11 a few days ago, but this problem was already present when I was using Windows 10, so it doesn't seem to be related to the OS version.

The issue occurs across multiple applications, suggesting it's not specific to any one software.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any tips on how to resolve this or should I consider reaching out to 3Dconnexion support? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

It's the problem of the scroll wheel encoder in your CadMouse Pro Wirelss, you have to replace the scroll wheel encoder in the mouse. In your case, it's a TTC scroll wheel encoder of 9mm height, you can buy a TTC gold mouse scroll wheel encoder from amazon, aliexpress or ebay.

The included TTC scroll wheel encoder has relatively low lifespan that under intense daily use, it will fail(causing reverse scroll issue) after mouse warranty expires. This is by design, which is called planned obsolescence, so that when your CadMouse Pro Wireless warranty expired, you have to place a new order to buy the product, it generates new stream of income for the manufacturer or the OEM contract manufacturer. Other mouse manufacturer does this trick too, like Logitech, MX Master 3S will fail right after the warranty expires, usually it's related to the microswitch double-click issue.

The solution is if your product is still under warranty, contact 3Dconnexion for RMA(Return Material Authorisation). Otherwise, replace the scroll wheel encoder.

Hi,

I was wondering if you found another solution for the error besides the waranty?
Did you contact 3D connexion support? Did they react?

I have the same problem, i had it with my previous cadmouse which I used for 8 years.
Therefore I thought, why not buy a new mouse instead of difficult replacing some parts of the scroll wheel.

But:
The new mouse has the same issue from the start, I've been using it now for 3-4 months like this, it is a bit difficult in use but I could not find out what was the problem or a fix so i decided to work with it. I mean my work has to be finished, i don't have time to endlessly search for solutions and fixes.

So:
I would like your opionion, can there be another explanation for the weird scroll mouse?
Because I find it had to believe that a new out of the box mouse has exact the same errors caused by a item failed in the mouse

@luping, of course I understand what you are saying, this could be the cause but in my case it would be weird to be dead on arrivel

Thanks for any response

The microswitches in your CadMouse won't last so long if you use it on a daily basis for work, because the microswitch model in it is a short-lifespan OMRON D2FC-F-7N model, you'll quickly find double-click issue with it.

"but in my case it would be weird to be dead on arrival"

Well, that could be microswitch soldering problem or quality control problem. Contact the 3Dconnexion support to get a replacement.

Experiencing sporadic zoom and scroll reversals with the CadMouse Pro Wireless can be frustrating, especially during precision work

Agreed. Using such a mode is really annoying!

I have good experience with WD40 on contacts and switches. I repaired many mouses, also such as scroll wheel on CADmouse. If you know, how to disassemble the mouse, then just put a little bit of WD40 into the switch. It dissolves the "gunk" and provides lubrication for years to come. Just don't put too much, so the PCB is not covered in the oil. Little amount is enough. Mouse repaired.
Same story for the switches.

Unexpectedly, I had similar results with just isopropyl alcohol.
It was already a second RMA CADMouse USB replacement that was totally unusable on LMB and RMB again. After disassembling I loaded a syringe, without needle, pressed it on top of all micros switches and just blasted about 0,5 ccm through all switches.

Unfortunately at first I tried compressed air. Looks like I have blown some dust into my scroll wheel sensors which made scrolling unreliable. At that point I did not really got the scroll wheel and MMB click mechanism, nor flooded its switch nor my side buttons with isopropyl. I didn't bother trying to fix scrolling and just transplanted the MMB/scroll combo from my first RMA CADMouse.
Click switches work like at day one and MMB/Scroll wheel is also OK again.
I am curious how long it will work this time. Usually 3D Con USB CADMouse halftime here is only about 6-24 months.
