How to set up the SpaceMouse for games

Post by MacGoose »

Almost two years ago I was into getting my SpaceMouse to work as a joystick in games - specifically the game Star Citizen. I found out how to and created a video about it. If anyone is interested the video is below. It's made for Star Citizen, but the first part can be used for any games or programs that take joystick as input.

5 years ago, this worked incredibly poorly as there was no way around the responsiveness issues. Now, the functionality works out of the box almost flawlessly. I have switched to this for about half a year now and can confirm that it works incredibly well if you have practice with the device in CAD. If you have this practice, you can fly all 6 axes in one hand fairly easily. However, I'm not good enough to dogfight like that yet and I have a nice flight stick so I only use the SpaceMouse for translation.

The one hiccup I have with it is that there is no option to disable automatic calibration in the device advanced settings. A stopgap workaround (not a solution) that I have yet to test thoroghly is binding Calibrate SpaceMouse to a button so that you can quickly interrupt the device when it decides to send you off in the opposite direction from where you were headed.

Got my wireless spacemouse yesterday, and followed both videos.

Works great! Thank you very much! :D

(I do have an issue with the spacemouse, but it's unrelated. Another user is reporting the almost exact same issue.
My reply there isn't yet available to be seen at the time of this message.
