Hello zemlin - Your zoom function may already be assigned to the standard mouse scroll wheel - that keeps it from being available for your SpacePilot PRO. That was the problem. Probably worth mentioning that I'm on W7x64, Quad core i5 760, 16 GB RAM, Samsung EVO SSD system disk, and GTX570 graphics card - dual 1920x1200 monitors.
