Don't mean to bump an old thread.
To close this issue out, I finally received a replacement today, and it's smooth as silk.
Had I not used one before, I may have kept the old janky one and deemed it useless.

No luck, I'm not using a hub and I've tried different ports, even a different PC. I'm running NX3 and Catia.
