The device works the same, front or back. I unplugged from the back and plugged into the front ports just now with a fully functional device. It still works except the Lcd has bombed out and displays nothing. not like an unplugged nothing. it is lit from either end. looks wierd. no text or anything ...

So I now have the space pilot plugged into the rear of the pc.
