SolidWorks 2008 - Button maps

Post by jlieber »

Okay, most of the button/funtion maps work great. However I am having an issue... I need to assign the key 'S' to a button, I cannot get this done... So I thought I'd assign the features I want to the buttons (specifically FILLET). I cannot get this to work either, even tried turning on the features toolbar, tried FEATURES-FILLET and COMMAND MANAGER-FILLET... nothing...

Please help...

Dear jlieber

Under the '3Dcontrol' Menu, check 'Toolbar'.
On the Toolbar, select the icon that looks to me like a piece of toast, that hi-lights as 'Show Mapping Panel'.
This should open a 'Button Mapping' dialog box.
Along the lefthand side you should find a list of command folders with a hammer icon.
Within these command folders, you will find SolidWorks Commands indicated by a nail icon.
The top drop down box will indicate which configuration is current.
Change to the configuration that you want to assign this new button mapping to.
Then simply drag the command to the button you would like to assign it to.

Sincerely,
Bryan

I appologize, I am not have a problem mapping buttons, I have most of the buttons mapped. The problem is that I want to map specific commands, such as FILLET. I cannot get it to map, I tried the 'fillet' from the mapping under COMMAND MANAGER and the one under FEATURES. However neither one worked.

Dear Mr. jlieber,

It appears that you have a SolidWork's 'fillet" command mapped to the the third button.

What behavior do you observe when you key the third button? What behavior do you observe with your other button mappings?

Have you tried keying all the buttons to make sure we not mis-keying the wrong button?

Have you been successful with your button mapping to commands other than 'fillet".

Did this work well for you in SolidWorks 2007?

Sincerely,
Bryan

Applogies for the delay. I did try all the buttons... everything that is mapped works correctly except the fillet key. I am looking to see if I can re-map the SolidWorks shortcut key (for the pop-up/context menu)...

Button mapping in SolidWorks 2008...

Post by rhauck »

I too am having problems with the button mapping with the new version of SolidWorks (2008) and my SpacePilot. I didn't have any problems with 2007, but since upgrading am unable to get Sketch Fillet, Mirror Entities, Convert Entities, and Trim Entities to work. Could it have something to do with the way they have rearranged the CommandManager?

Thanks for any help,

Rob

Solidworks 2008 SP2.1 Can't map sketch on SpacePilot

Post by Robert Tupa »

Same type of problem here.

Mapping the sketch command to any of my Space Pilot keys does nothing. I've mapped "S" from the keyboard to the same command and that works fine.

Thanks for any help.

3DxWare Release version 3.5.6, Driver 6.5.5, firmware version 3.12.

It seems we have a problem here with SolidWorks 2008 and button mapping. I will let you know as soon as I have any news on that.

Rob,

Please right-click on your toolbar and click on "Customize".
Then go to the "Commands"-tab -> Sketch and move the "Sketch Fillet" command to your toolbar.

Then open the Button Mapping Editor and select the category which is named similar to the toolbar where you just placed the command. If you map this command to a button - does it work now?

Perhaps you will find commands in different categories, but only the commands without drop-down on the toolbar will work.

You can then remove the command from the toolbar after it is successfully mapped.

Robert,

Please use the "Customize"-function of SolidWorks, open the "Commands"-tab and move the "Sketch" function which is located under "Sketch" to your toolbar. After that you will find the "Sketch" command in our Button Mapping Editor (located under the category which has the same name as the toolbar on which you placed the command).
This command will work. Please see also my last post in this thread.

@rstadie:

Thank you for your help! The drop down is what was causing my problems and things are working great with your suggestions.

Thanks,

I mapped the S key to one of my buttons on my SpaceNavigator by using the 3DxWare Control Panel. Click on the Button Configuration tab, then click on Custom Functions..., then click New.

I named mine "Shortcut Bar" and simply typed a single S in the lower box and saved it. Now back on the Button Configuration tab you should be able to choose "Shortcut Bar" (or whatever you named the function) in the drop downs and assign it to a button.

Cheers,
- Dustin
