What's the best 'normal' mouse to use with my 3D mouse?

Using my 3D mouse on an XP system, mostly with SketchUp Pro. It's time for me to get a new 2D mouse for general use and that brought up the question: Is there a 2D mouse out there that plays particularly nicely with my 3D mouse? I'm thinking unique driver features or special mouse switches or whatever.

Thoughts, advice appreciated. (If nothing else comes to mind, I'm all ears about the best keyboard and 2D mouse to get in general - for example, is wireless the way to go now?)

J - I agree re Logitech, but which mouse, sensei? The number of mice and keyboards around these days boggles the mind, and the feature sets are impossible to intelligently compare unless you devote a Saturday morning to the research. I'd much rather follow the advice of CAD folks down in the trenches where I also live. - Jim

I can only speak for myself, and I'd qualify myself as a software developer, not a CAD designer. I'd further qualify myself as having just retired a 10 year old Logitech corded mouse (not exactly an early adopter--or maybe I'm just cheap <G>).

I was lured away from my ultra-reliable cord by the cordless MX Revolution (for my desktop) and a cordless VX Nano (for my laptop). The two killer features for me are the free-spinning scroll wheel and the back/forward buttons on the device. It is also a very precise mouse (the laser).

Hopefully some CAD designers will chime in.

Well, I'm off to buy a mouse based on your combined endorsement of the MX Revolution. Thanks again for your suggestions guys. Also buying a pair of 22" LCDs to replace my current dual-crt set up, so the new nouse will get a serious workout.

I might mention that I am also migrating up from old Logitech gear - I have (and love) my wireless Logitech track ball from years ago - I have the one with a huge ball about the size of a rackekball. If they made it now with upgraded internals I'd be all over it still.
