3ds Max Design

Post by wal9000 »

I just upgraded from 3ds Max 9 to 3ds Max Design 2009, and my SpacePilot is no longer functioning with it. I've upgraded to the newest drivers.

Is Max Design not yet supported, or am I having another problem. If it isn't supported yet, is there a target date for having compatibility?[/i]

Hi wal9000,

Autodesk's 3ds Max Design 2009 is supported in the latest 3DxSoftware release (see the All Supported Application web page).

If you installed the application after 3DxSoftware, you may have to run a "repair" of 3DxSoftware. This is because 3ds Max requires the add-in file to be copied in one of its installation sub-folders.

Repair didn't fix it, but and uninstall/reinstall of the drivers seems to have done the trick. Glad to have it working again.

go to start, all programs, autodesk, 3d max and there should be a flyout for 2009 - called 3dxdesign or something - anyways it is a simple matter of replacing a dll as follows (cut and pasted from flyout re abv):
3DxStudio
*
3Dconnexion Plug-in for 3ds max
===============================

This file explain how to install the current version of 3DxStudio and how to use it.

The complete package is :
One "3dxstd.dlu"
One "3dxstudio.ms" for 3ds max version 5 and higher
One "3DxStudio.chm" file.
This "readme.txt" file .

IMPORTANT:
----------

* Manual Installation
Copy the "3dxstd.dlu" file from "C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion Plug-in for 3ds max"
to the "stdplugs" sub-directory of 3dx max.
Copy "3DxStudio.chm" to the help sub-directory
If you are using 3ds max 5 and higher copy 3DxStudio.ms to the scripts\startup sub-directory.
That's all.

* Loading the plug-in

- First use of the plug-in:
i) In order to use the SpaceMouse/SpaceBall, you must make sure that the driver is running;
ii) Start 3ds max, the plug-in should now be loaded and a banner is displayed.

- Automatic load of the plug-in:
No action is required if 3DxStudio.ms is located in the scripts\startup directory

1. CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS
---------------------------------
For change information, please refer to the "Release Notes" documentation available with software downloads at http://www.3dconnexion.com/support.

2. USING 3DxStudio
------------------

On this version, you can move and rotate objects. You can move or rotate one or more objects.
First you select the object(s) , and then the moves are applied on the object(s).
You can move and rotate the selected object(s) either with respect to the Screen
reference coordinates, or with respect to your preferred coordinate system (depending
on the currents settings of 3ds max).

You can select the Viewport checkbox in order to move the viewports : either user
or perspective viewports, or camera viewports . All the moves in the viewports are
in regards of the screen reference coordinate.
When using a TARGET CAMERA, the moves are "limited" because of limitation of the
target. The camera always looks at the target, even if you try to rotate.

When moving viewports, you can select to move them as a camera view, or you can
select to move the scene as you do when you move objects.
