"device initialization NOTsuccessful" in Blender

Hello,
I just tried to get Blender 2.46 and 3DxWare 5.9.2 to work with a SpaceMouse Classic serial (5.49).
I get the following Message:

Compiled with Python version 2.5.
Checking for installed Python... got it!
3Dconnexion main COM instance: 00000000
3Dconnexion device initialization NOTsuccessful

I also googled and read in
viewtopic.php?t=1338&start=45&sid=df40b ... 7c88c98137
But it didn't seem to apply for me.

The ndof icons appear in Blender. The demos work. The mouse beeps as I start a demo, but not in Blender.

Hello Dick,
Serial devices are not supported in Blender.
