CATIA non responsive

Post by stormy »

After I had installed a Spaceball 5000 USB, anytime I minamize CATIA or another program opens on top of CATIA, it hangs and becomes non responsive. I have since tried uninstalling the software and drivers for the spaceball and even reinstalled CATIA and it still becomes non responsive. The program was working fine before and the only change I made to the system was adding the spaceball.

This is on a Windows XP system.

Any help or advice would be great.

What driver are you installing?
What version of Catia?
Make sure your video drivers are up to date.

Drivers: 3DxSoftware_v3-6-7.exe
CATIA: V5R16 and V5R18 w/SP4 were tried
Video drivers probably have an update available. Will try updating them.

Updated video drivers, uninstalled all virus and firewall type stuff, did windows updates, grasping at straws.

Hi stormy,

This is probably the first time we hear of such an issue with CATIA (unresponsive when moved to the background).

Try to eliminate some of the variables at play here. What happens if you run CATIA without the SpaceBall?

CATIA has native support for 3D mice. In other words, problems with 3D mouse navigation in the application can only be resolved by the editor (Dassault). You should consider opening a support request with the technical helpdesk for CATIA.

I get the same problem with or without the spaceball or the software/drivers for it installed. I too am thinking that it is a different issue then your product, figured I would start here since that is when started and maybe someone else had the same problem. I will contact Dassault for help but I am still open to suggestions, I really don't want to reformat the system. Oh and system restore points didn't help either.

Hi stormy,

Do you have any special software for your 3D Mouse installed? Please uninstall 3DxSoftware and any other Plug-ins completely, especially any legacy software like the MS Office Plug-in.

Then do the following:

A) Move all scg-files which are located under %appdata%/3dconnexion/3dxware/profiles/ to a backup-folder
B) Reinstall the latest 3DxSoftware

Any changes?
