Error -5003 : 0x5

This is for the SpaceNavigator Personal Edition.

I receive this following error when I try to run the installation program. Right after I select "English" and press OK it gives me:

"An error (-5003 : 0x5) has occurred while running the setup.

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor: 3Dconnexion"

The computer is a Dell Precision 690 and is running Windows XP.

Also the unit is connected directly to the computers USB port, and I am sure that port works because I used it on a port that was used before and working.

The unit doesn't light up when hooked up, I thought maybe the unit is broken but I hooked it up to another computer that has one installed and it lit up and started working. So it isn't the unit either.

I called tech support, but he said to post on here because they don't offer support for the personal edition.

Any ideas?

I would guess this is an error with a previous install which was not finished. You could try the following:

A) Open C:\Program Files\Common Files
B) Rename "InstallShield" to "InstallShieldOld"
C) Restart the 3DConnexion installation package

Which version of 3DxSoftware do you try to install and are you using Windows 2000? Which Anti-Virus-solution do you use?

Hi ascamir,

I think it is version 3.3 (says v3.3 on the CD) and its on a Windows XP system.

Version 3.3 CD-ROM is software from May 2007. We have made a number of updates since.

On Windows, the installer should have prompted you to check for a later version on our web site.

Did you try using that feature?
