Space Pilot and Space Navigator for Laptop on same Computer

Post by Dee Stringer »

I have a Dell Latitude D800 that I am currently using a Space Pilot on. Everything is working quite smoothly at present.

I have purchased a Space Navigator for Laptops to use on the same Laptop when at home or on Job sites.
Is it possible to have both of these devices on the same System?

If so,
Are there any known issues or special procedures involved with having both of these set up on the same Computer?

Can I load drivers for both devices and the computer recognize which device I have plugged in at start up?

Should I remove the drivers and software for the Space Pilot and just use the Space Navigator for Laptops drivers all the time?

Obviously, or maybe not so obviously, I would not be trying to use both at the same time.

What I don't want to do is screw up my system by trying to do something that hasn't been engineered and/or tested to be done.

I hope you get the idea of my line of questions.
Any advise on the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dee

SpacePilot and SpaceNavigator swappable.

Dear Dee Stringer,

Both devices use the same driver, and the drivers are included with enough 'intelligence' that it can recognize which device you are using. It will automatically switch between the two. We have been having good luck here, hot swapping between devices. I would not recommend trying to use both at the same time. That would be confusing.

Sincerely,
Bryan

Bryan,

Thanks for the quick response.

After I posted I noticed there was a movie on the Space Navigator for "Notebooks" page and saw that it was recommended as a good companion for the Space Pilot. None the less it's great news to hear you say the same.

I should recieve the Space Navigator tomorrow.

Can hardly wait to get it setup so I can stop having to carry the Space Pilot home when I want to work on something there.

The only other question I have now I guess is that if they use the same driver does that mean that I should be able to just plug the Navigator for Notebooks in and it be ready to go without loading any additional drivers or 3Dconnexion software?

Thanks again,
Dee

Dear Dee Stringer,

If you're using relatively modern drivers and applications, and the SpacePilot has been working well, the SpaceNavigator should work equally as well, save the number of buttons and LED screen. Just plug in the device that is convenient for you.

Sincerely,
Bryan G.

Hello Bryan,

Just to follow up.
I got my Space Nav for Notebooks today. Plugged it in and so far it has worked without any problems with the drivers and 3dxware already loaded on the system from my Space Pilot.
Only had to reverse the axes for my preference.

Thanks,
Dee
