spacemouse on vmware in win 7 pro

If you're referring to VMware Workstation, then you only need to install 3DxWare 10 as usual. You will need a version that can be installed on Windows 7 (v. 10.8.12 should work but it is untested) and then redirect the USB device to the client system.

Let me clarify:

1. Are you saying that I need to install the 3dX driver on the host system or on the VM system? I'm running the VMware in Win10-64 and already have the correct driver installed on it.

2. Before coming into this forum I read about 'redirecting the USB device to the client system' but couldn't find anything explaining how to do that. Would you please explain that to me?

I don't know what that means. VMware is a company and has quite a large product portfolio.

You are basically asking us to tell you how to support a third-party product (how to redirect a USB device) but we do not even know what that product is. You will surely get a more useful response from the VMware community since 3Dconnexion products are simple USB devices (just like mice and keyboards).

VM > Removable Devices > Device Name > Connect, only two devices at the same time. If it's OK, then you need a third-party USB passthrough software to get the spacemouse to be used by the virtual machine. The reason why I tell you that Windows 7 is end of support is that running engineering software in windows 7 in virtual machine is performance restricted and may not support the recent software releases, microsoft no longer supports it, most ISV don't support it too. Only if you want to run some legacy CAD software.

By the way, your upbringing is poor, it's not your fault.

I didn't know only 2 input devices were allowed on a VM.
Doesn't make any sense, since many of us use 3 or more input devices.
This is my first go-around with a VM.

I'm running legacy CAD software (from back in the early 2000's).
I really don't care about MicroSnot, ISV's and all those Anti-Trust Act violatiors.

I had to install a MS USB 3.0 driver in the VM to get the device to show up in the list.
It's name is "Microchip lash", whatever that means.
Apparently I DO have it showing in my list of devices.
So then I disabled the SpaceMouse in the Host and then installed the drivers for it in the VM.
The result is the same, which is, the device has forward and backward motion only.
So I think it's the driver, not the connection.
I've had serious problems with the driver on Inventor in the past on a non-VM, so that's my guess.
I really want to get this to work.
