Space Navigator crashes AutoCAD 2007

Post by bturner »

I am using Sapce Navigator with AutoCAD 2007. I love it but after using it for a few minutes in my drawing, AutoCAD crashes with a fatal error message and I end up closing AutoCAD, sending a report and having to restart AutoCAD and recover all my open drawings. If I leave the Space Navigator alone (not use it) the software never crashes, only when I start using it.

- I am using the latest driver
- For some reason when AutoCAD starts up I get three 3DConnexion menus appear and then disappear
- I have run the configurator
- I have deleted all custom configurations and started over
- I have uninstalled and reintalled the software
- I don't seem to be running out of memory
- Autodesk has no solution

Any ideas how I can get my Space Navigator to work with AutoCAD 2007?

Dear bturner,

What is the fatal error you are receiving?

What are your system spec's?

What version of 3DxSoftware are you using?

Dear bturner,

Have you had previous success with this system?
Is this a new problem that developed when you made changes?
or this always been the case with this setup?

Are using a 'Lite' version of AutoCAD?

This may be a video card/driver associated problem. You might check on your video card driver versions and you might try experimenting with a single card/monitor setup.

Sincerely,
Bryan

I have always had this system and have always had the problem with Space Navigator.

I am using the full version of AutoCAD.

I will see if there is a video driver update.

I just updated to the latest video drive, NVidia Version 6.14. Still the same problem.

Dear bturner,

You may need to select acad3dx17.arx.

In AutoCAD 2007
try using the following path to select acad3dx17.arx
Tools | Load Application | acad3dx17.arx

What results do you get with a single monitor set-up?

Where can I get this file? It is not on my computer. It is not on my AutoCAD installation CD. I searched the AutoDesk website and it does not exist there.

Can you send it to me?

Dear bturner,

You should find it listed when you got to Tools | Load Application within AutoCAD.

Like I said, that file does not exist in the Load Application or any where else on my hard drive or the installation CD.

Dear bturner,

I must apologize, I gave you an incorrect spelling. In the newer drivers, it is now '3dxautocad.arx'.

This would be the path:

C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxAutoCAD2007\3dxautocad.arx

That is the file I am using.

I am beginning to think that there really is no way to use this cevice with 2d AutoCAD.

Dear bturner,

2d AutoCAD? I don't think I am following. I thought you were having problems receiving errors in AutoDesk AutoCAD 2007.

Thanks,
Bryan

Hi,
Please try the following:
Copy

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxAutoCAD2007\3dxautocad.arx -> C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acadm 2007\

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxAutoCAD2007\3DxAutoCAD.chm -> C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acadm 2007\Help\
Then copy copy the following folders to your AutoCAD Mechanical-installation:

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxAutoCAD2007\toolbar\icons -> C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acadm 2007\Support\

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxAutoCAD2007\toolbar\en-us -> C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acadm 2007\Support\

Then start AutoCAD Mechanical 2007 and click on “Assist – Load Application”
Browse to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acadm 2007\ , mark “3dxautocad.arx” and click on “Load”
Then click on close

Does this procedure help?
