Windows Screen Saver

Post by HobbesPDX »

hi!
Thanks for the wonderful product -- the installer option to not have the software run at Windows start/boot-time is GREAT. Thanks.

However, I'm experiencing one problem -- when using (exclusively) the SpaceNavigator, the screen saver will kick in (when it should).

Can the device 'trigger' the screen saver timer like a normal mouse?

Sorry to nitpick, guys.

GREAT PRODUCT.

Dear HobbesPDX,

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by using (exclusively) the SpaceNavigator. If you mean trying to use it in the Windows Operating System, I do not believe you will find functionality. You need to be using an application that uses our device. Listing of these applications can be found under the Solutions Menu on the our web site. So I would say that you would not be able to trigger a screen saver like a normal mouse. It is normally used in conjunction with a normal Windows Mouse within an application.

Sincerely,
Bryan G.

sorry

OK. sorry. bad report.
I'm using Windows Vista SP1, running the latest version of Google Earth.
I'm using Google Earth during the specified scenario.
I'll be "flying," using the application, and the SpaceNavigator, and the screen saver will kick in after the mouse has stopped moving (+ appropriate delay).

exclusive = terms of physical use

Post by HobbesPDX »

I meant exclusive in that it was the only Human-Interface-Device I was using. Being such a great tool, I was using just it to navigate Google Earth.

...understanding...

Post by HobbesPDX »

What I should say is --
I read and understand that, during typical use (read as: I should), be using both the regular mouse and the SpaceNavigator in tandem, like it shows in my users' guide. :)

3Dconnexion Device Usage not timed by Windows Screen Saver

Post by Bryan »

Dear HobbesPDX,

Yes, that would normal behavior of the Windows Operating System. Only Google Earth recognizes active input from our device. Although we have a driver installed as part of the Windows Operating System. The Windows Operating System's screen saver was designed only with timing checks on the Windows Mouse and the Windows Keyboard. The Windows' screen saver timing checks wouldn't know about the wide variety of input and scientific instrumentation that might be added later. If you find this Windows Behavior intrusive, as a work around, you could increase the time delay for the screen saver or turn the screen saver off for your Google Earth Use.

Sincerely,
Bryan
