Unstable Motion with 3D CAD Mouse

I recently purchased a CAD Mouse and although there are many things I like about it. The one issue I have is that I use it on a semi-Shellac / acrylic surface, and there is unstable (jerky) motion when moving the mouse around. I was hoping on some insight as to how to use this mouse with smooth motion ?

Have you tried another surface?

What surface do you recommend, do you know a type that is effective ?
