Programmable Buttons won't work

Post by JMirisola »

Two SpacePilots, 5 different machines, current drivers.

I'm a bit dumbfounded that in order to use the programmable buttons, you have to activate the corresponding toolbars in SolidWorks (Told to me by 3Dconn tech support). This, essentially, forces the user to regress to SolidWorks '06. Even trying that, the programmable buttons still don't work.

Hi,

Unfortunately you can only use commands which do not provide a drop-down menu on the toolbar (our plug-in would not know which of these commands you want to use).

E.g. the "Save" command from the "Flyout toolbars" toolbar will not work, but the "Save"-command listed in "Standard" will work. You can disable the toolbar after mapping these commands - the mapped buttons should still work. Which version of SolidWorks do you use?

Hi Jeff,
you have to activate the corresponding toolbars in SolidWorks
Actually, the restriction is that only commands available on toolbars can be used. It shouldn't matter if the toolbar is shown on the application frame or is hidden from view.

As rstadie mentioned, some buttons on the toolbars do not correspond to a single command but open a pull-down menu (listing several commands). This type of "command" will not work if mapped to a 3D mouse button.

What are the steps that you take to map the commands? Which commands are you using?

I map the way I always have, with the control panel. I'm noticing, too, that the default buttons don't work either.
I've been using 3Dconnexion devices for a number of years and never had such problems.

Hi Jeff,

Please bear with us as we do not yet know what is the state of your system. What steps are you taking to map the buttons?

It would be easier for us to understand what is going on if you were to give us instructions along the lines of:

1) Start 3D mouse driver: check demos work;
2) Launch SolidWorks and open a part file: check 3D mouse changes view (navigates);
3) Open "Button Mapping" panel (from 3Dcontrol toolbar);
4) On the "Button Mapping" panel, select category "xyz" and drag-and-drop command "abc" to button "1".
5) Press "OK" to close the panel;
6) Press 3D mouse button "1": check command "abc" executes.

The steps I use to remap are as you stated in your post. Yes, I can manipulate the model/assembly with the puck and all the demos work. It is strictly the buttons that won't work.

And which commands have you tried mapping to the 3D mouse buttons?

Also, check which "configuration" is loaded on the driver. Launch SolidWorks and then open the "3Dconnexion Control Panel" (Start menu, Programs, 3Dconnexion, 3Dconnexion 3DxWare, Show 3DxWare Control Panel). The selection should be "SolidWorks".
