Can't assign correct buttons on CAD Mouse

Post by MarcGibeault »

I've had this mouse for several years but still can't find how to assign the buttons without asking here... The settings are so badly designed it's a shame.
What I need is very simple:
Button -> Behaviour I need
Left mouse button -> Left mouse button
Middle mouse button -> Middle mouse button
Wheel click -> Middle mouse button
Wheel spin -> Wheel spin
Right mouse button -> Right mouse button
Forward button -> Forward button
Back button -> Back button

I know it seems like rocket science and it would look cool if I would put more creative names but that's what I need :roll:

Would you like to have this button assignment in any app on your system?

There are 5 programable buttons available in the 3DxWare Settings on macOS.

The left and right mouse button settings are accessible in your system settings, but also in the settings of applications. Most CAD applications have mouse button settings available.

Hi, thanks for your answer.
But I think I was clear; how to get standard buttons behaviour on the CADMouse?
There’s no such option in the settings.
At first I thought "2D mouse" would emulate a standard mouse, but no.
It's easy to have a button turn on the music (why I would want that?) but it seems impossible to have a button do a "middle button click"
I think it will soon go back in the drawer .

In other words, when I uninstalled all 3DConnexion software/drivers from my computer, the mouse acted correctly, with all the buttons doing what they should.
But I need the drivers because I'm now using the SpaceMouse on the same computer.

E.g. in Safari Web Browser app:

3Dconnexion Home.app > Settings > Select your 3Dconnexion device > "Any application" > Buttons > Middle Button > Mapping > 2D Mouse > Mouse Action > Click Button 3

Which application are you referring to?

Ok, great! So Middle button = Click Button 3
It works, thanks. But why you're calling it "Click Button 3" ? We're supposed to know this? We must try all the options and hope to discover this ourself?
If you insist on using generic nomenclature with no meaning, why don't you put a chart there showing the meaning of all those options? I think I'll create one when I come back from my holidays, it will be a nice UX exercice.

And then, the back / forward buttons? The standard behaviour is under "Click Button 4 and 5"?
I just tried and no, it doesn't work. I tried again all the options that seem plausible but nothing works.

I'm not referring to an application.
I want the mouse to do what any mouse should do.

Again:
Left mouse button -> Left mouse button
Middle mouse button -> Middle mouse button
Wheel click -> Middle mouse button
Wheel spin -> Wheel spin
Right mouse button -> Right mouse button
Forward button -> Forward button
Back button -> Back button

The same in all applications.

Is it possible that you accidentally have overwritten the button assignments for the default "Any Application" ?

And, should it work by setting the standard buttons to "3D Mouse Default" ?

Sorry I realized, my CADMouse (2nd replacement BTW) button Sensors broke again some time ago and so I can't test my proposals .... I use another Mouse since a year or so

Ok, once again, I abandon this project of using the SpaceMouse and CAD Mouse on a Mac.
I think it's the third time I try to use it, can't get it to work as I need, try to get answers here, but nothing.
"AmroSalih" did tried but without reading the entire question and without providing a solution.
Besides that, nothing from 3DCONNEXION support.
So, farewell!

Your app may have different shortcuts compared to other software on macOS, and you can take advantage of each one.

For example, in SketchUp Layout, the shortcut [SHIFT] + [Z] is assigned to a radial menu button, as shown in the screenshot below:

In my previous post, I mentioned Safari. There, you might want to assign the keystroke [COMMAND] + [←]. Of course, other shortcut options are available as well.

I agree that calling it "Click Button 3" is somewhat cryptic but we're only trying to follow the nomenclature used in macOS.

For an example, go to the System Settings app > Desktop & Dock > Mission Control section, click the "Shortcut..." button and then the "Mouse Shortcut" pull down menu. You will see a listing of mouse buttons with "Secondary Mouse Button" at the top and then "Mouse Button 3", "Mouse Button 4", ..., "Mouse Button 32". For what we can tell, macOS does not have a concept for a "middle" mouse button. It's just another general button.
