Blender 4.5+ not currently supported

Post by animaliok »

Hi ! Anyone here using Blender, and absolutely terrified that they've removed support from 4.5 onward ?
By that I mean that in blender 4.5 fly speed does not adapt to the size of your selection, nor to your zoom level, it remains stuck at an arbitrary default speed, so your space mouse is either moving extremely slow around anything bigger than 1 meter, or extremely fast around object or topology smaller than 1 meter, like too fast to track vertices / edges / faces for example.
So obviously if bigger and smaller objects than 1 meter are not supported, we can agree Space Mouse is not supported, you simply can open blender 4.5 or 5.0 to confirm this.

The proposed workaround are absolutely catastrophically flawed, like using the "object" navigation mode that freezes your camera randomly on arbitrary spots in space every few seconds, that no one should ever use, or using the 5 preset speeds in 3DxWare, which is ridiculous as objcts do not have 5 typical sizes, they have an infinite and constantly changing amount of different sizes, so even if there was an infinite amount of rpesets buttons, it would still be a massive issue to have to manually open a raidal menu instead of just having the speed adapt automatically like it always was. Other workaround in development are bound to fail, like the raycast method that tries to guess the correct speed for the user, which is fundamentally, by nature, unpredictable, as speed suddenly accelerate or decelerate randomly based of objects leaving or entering your field of view. Or another method to replicate the Frame selected adjusting the speed, but using the sensitivity from blender preferences that are clamped so cannot support infinitely big or small obejcts like they need to.

Anyway, i'm starting to be really affraid, even if I managed to sort a couple of addons to restore partially Space Mouse support in 4.5, it's really dirty and hacky.

Anyone else using blender with some opinion on this that could help with this case of restoring support ?

thanks

Thanks Amro, I've been in talks with Robert and Patryk since 2 months, and I've made a massive amount of text and video documentation of why this obvioulsy needs to be restored, but I'm not sure they understand or are familiar with blender, as there is so many apps supported by the space mouse, and the majority are for working on a single object, so it might be why they don't understand the concept of the Fly mode in blender, which is the way space mouse is used in scenes with many objects of many different sizes, unlike CAD.
I've started to find other blender space mouse users, and they all report 4.5 is unusable obviously, but we still got zero answer this week, so it's the source of a lot of stress, as this should never have happened in the first place, let alone last for this long.
