Space Explorer settings being over ridden

Post by yoshimitsuspeed »

This has been an issue for me off and on for years but now it has gone full time issue now.

The issue seems to only be in applications that have built in legacy support or similar. For example for me I use Zeiss (Used to be GOM) Inspect and Prusa Slicer a lot.
I am using Driver 10.6.4 which as I understand is the latest driver.
The issue is that the 3DConnexion settings don't work in these applications. The biggest issue for me is I am completely used to using inverted controls or "fly mode" so in the default mode everything is backwards for me and I just can't learn it or make it work.

For years it has done this sometimes but then oftentimes it would work. I'm not entirely sure if it was after restarting the computer or just sometimes opening the application or what changed but then it would work for a while until something annoying like a Windows update forced reboot.
Lately however I can't get the settings to apply to these programs no matter what I do. Prusa Slicer has check box to activate legacy support but turning it on or off doesn't change anything.
Zeiss Inspect has a 3d mouse properties settings but I don't see a way do disable it or pass settings to the 3DXware app, or to invert controls.

I use Fusion 360 and the settings are always applied there.
I actually just checked FreeCad which has an enable support of legacy space mouse devices but with that unchecked it does work and 3Dxware settings do give me the option for camera mode and it does invert controls.
Blender also has settings to change spacemouse behavior but things like reversing controls in 3DXware do pass through into Blender.

These things do make me think these issues are with Prusa Slicer, Zeiss Inspect, etc, but they all seem convinced the issue isn't on their end.

And right after that I go back to what I was trying to do in Prusa Slicer and it works properly.
And pop into Zeiss inspect and it works properly.

This was after messing with settings in Zeiss Inspect as I was writing that, and then opening Blender so I could refresh my memory on it's settings.

So it seems to me one of those two things, either playing with settings in Zeiss Inspect or Opening Blender, made everything work properly in Zeiss Inspect and Prusa Slicer.
As I was playing with settings in Zeiss Inspect I was testing inputs and it wasn't doing anything I wanted.

I also just reinstalled the 3Dxware driver and programs and reset all settings so when I opened Blender I had to re-enter my inverted settings in 3Dxware.
Is it possible that opening Blender or changing 3Dxware settings for Blender, then navigating around in the 3D space in Blender could have done something that made everything work properly in the other apps?

I guess I will try all these things next time it isn't working and see if I can replicate the "fix".

3DxWare driver version 10.6.4 had been released back in 2019. 3Dconnxion did not test your SpaceExplorer with recent software releases.
The SpaceExplorer is a legacy device: https://3dconnexion.com/support/faq/3dc ... d-devices/

We recommend upgrading to a current SpaceMouse model.
