Using 3DConnexion Mouse in Elite Dangerous (Steam) on Linux (Arch/CachyOS)

Post by MarinHobin »

Hi,

I have my 3Dconnection SpaceMouse (Compact) working on Linux (Arch/CachyOS) using the opensource SpaceNav drivers (see: https://spacenav.sourceforge.net/ and https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/3D_Mouse).

My SpaceMouse is recognized just fine by Blender and spnavcfg. However, I would like to use it as an input device for Elite Dangerous, which is installed using Steam (using Proton).

Is this possible? If so, how?

Check out the discussions of other users on the Steam platform. There might be more info about it on Discord.
For Steam, there is an app called ControlMyJoystick.

Thanks! I looked at ControlMyJoystick but it is proprietary software, which I would like to avoid if possible. On top of that, it requires a licence fee (which I'm not against, but could be an issue for some people).

For any future readers of this topic: I got it working with Input Remapper (https://github.com/sezanzeb/input-remapper). Input Remapper transforms the relative(?) inputs of the SpaceMouse into absolute inputs required for it to be usable as a game controller.
