'Calibrate' Free Drifting Motions

Post by Bryan »

Dear i-cube,

If you are experiencing a drifting motion, where there is movement when you are not manipulating your control knob, I would recommend trying to re-calibrate your device.

In the 3Dconnexion Control Panel, simply click on the 'Calibrate' button under the 'Device Configuration' tab, with the control knob, untouched in a free standing position.

Sincerely,
Bryan

Check Motion Settings

Post by Bryan »

Dear i-cube,

In the '3Dconnexion Control Panel', check some of your settings.

Under 'App Configerations' Tab, make sure 'Dominant' is unchecked and that 'Pan/Zoom' and 'Tilt/Spin/Roll' are both checked.

Under the 'Advanced Settings' Tab, make sure all six motions are checked on and that speed settings are set reasonably in the middle of their range.

Sincerely,
Bryan

Try deleting all your saved user scg files. You can do this in the 3DxWare GUI or by deleting all the files in
%appdata%/3dconnexion/3dxware/profiles.

hi
i tweaked the controls a little bit and its a little bit better ..but still not responsive as it was before (i was tweaking almost nothing before)
in cube 3d demo: when i roll it a little to the left - it spins, same thing when i roll to the right, it spins but in other direction. i have to roll the controler to its maximum and then the cube starts to roll. why ?
my settings (must have dominant selected, if not - i just cant control it, cube just spins and turns and runs away from screen)

I have encountered the same problem a couple of times and today as well. i am using my space navigator for Inventor 2010 and sometimes (about once every 2 months or so-including this morning) get where i have two motions going when i'm only moving in one direction - i.e.: i have zoom set in the "pull up, push down" direction and when i zoom i get a twisting along with a zoom - and also when panning side to side one side seems to be a little faster than the other. I have tried calibrating and unplugging the device and re-calibrating with no luck. i have had it go away after uninstalling and re-installing once but i haven't had time to uninstall it today so i pretty much just dealt with the annoyance.

Twisting when zooming in Inventor 2010.

Post by Bryan »

Dear glene,

What release version do you find listed in the 'About' Item under the 'Help' Menu in the 3Dconnexion Control Panel?

What operating system do you have?

Sincerely,
Bryan

the release version is 3.7.18

when i got in this morning and started up Inventor everything was fine

i'm wondering if it has something to do with the sensitivity of the device and the stability of the surface it is sitting on when the device starts up? i have one part of my desk that is a little wobbly - i moved my navigator over 6 inches to a more stable work surface and i'll see how that goes.

hi. me again.
i stopped working with my 3d mouse. i was unable to control it.
now i decided to give it one more try because it was perfect at the begining.
i have installed newest drivers.

the problem is, when i want to spin the object slightly in 3d max, object(or cam) is moving, like i wanted to tilt it.
if i spin it at max, THEN the object will spin.
when i pan the mouse to left/right, camera goes up/down.
Dominant is turned ON. if its OFF, then its horrible, and camera goes crazy. pan up/down and tilt must be reversed so i cant navigate properly.

also, Google earth, thats just impossible to control...

calibrating does NOT help, i have already restored all defaults, deleted all setings and whatever.

what the hell is wrong with it? device was PERFECT when i bought it, then
it was just bad. maybe new device will help...

im using 3d max 2009 x64. win 7 64bit
sorry for my english and thanx for any advice :p

also, demos are not working properly.
Cube 3d demo, when i spin to left, cube tilts and goes down. when i spin to right, it tilts and goes closer to camera.
when i tilt, it goes closer to camera ..
sigh :(

Try Testing Motion Individually

Post by Bryan »

Dear i-cube,

Sounds like quite a bit of stuff.

Normally I would recommend having 'Dominant' switched off as it will cause the software to choose between two motions and it may not

actually make it easier, it may make it more confusing.
(3Dconnexion Control Panel, App Configuration Tab)

That would leave you with 'Tilt/Spin/Roll' checked on as well as 'Pan/Zoom.' Which is the mode I believe that is most used. However if you

only want to work with rotations, turning off 'Pan/Zoom' will simplify the number of motions you are working with. (vice-versa as well)
(3Dconnexion Control Panel, App Configuration Tab)

For even greater granularity you may select each of the six motions individual. At times, this may be useful in your drafting. For trouble

shooting it's great because you can test each motion individually without the confusion of secondary motions.
(3Dconnexion Control Panel, Advanced Settings Tab)

You may also experiment with speeds for each motion or the over all speed
(3Dconnexion Control Panel, Device Configuration Tab).

Our two zoom modes also makes changes to motions that may give a model behavior that seems right in one situation and wrong in a

different situation and is worth testing as well.
(3Dconnexion Control Panel, Device Configuration Tab)

So try testing with each individual motion, one at a time and see what results you achieve. Make sure you have our mouse positioned

correctly with the cord oriented away from you toward the top of the device.

If adjustments to these settings don't seem to be improving your situation, give our technical desk a call for troubleshooting.

Do your testing with our Jet Demo for the best in a neutral testing ground.
(Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, 3Dconnexion 3DxWare, Demos)

Sincerely,
Bryan

Thank your for help, I really appreciate it.
i will reinstall my windows in a week and then i will try it again, if it works with default settings and fresh installed drivers.
if it wont work anyway, i will make a video to demonstrate the problem. my 3d mouse was in a service, someone tested it on his computer and said that it is ok. im not sure, cuz i cant navigate it on my PC and on another notebook:/
i will update this in a week.
