Button Configuration

Post by djh »

I try to change the function for the buttons on the SpaceNavigator but it ends up going back to the default?

I am using it in Inventor

Where are you mapping the buttons from?
Make sure your using the 3dxinventor button mapping editor and not the 3dcontrol panel.
The Plugin overwrites the 3dcontrol panel.

I was using the control panel. I located the Button Mapping Editor. Thanks!

I would think if the plugin overwrites the 3d control panel then the control panel button option should be grayed out or something. I did not know I had to go to this button editor.

Thanks

Still having this problem in Soklidworks too.

Post by Jianju »

Hi, I used to really enjoy the functionality I got out of my Spacenavigator in Solidworks. For some reason, I can't seem to make the tools appear in the button confifgvuration panel. I've already added them to the appropriate menu within the Command Configuration Panel, but they just don't appear in the 3D Connexion Plugin Panel. (Yes, I'm using the plugin & *not* the main panel.)

Is there a solution? Not being able to properly configure the buttons makes my beloved SpaceNavigator *much* less useful. Help! :(

Furthermore, I can't even get the Control Panel 3DConnexion Dialog to appear under either WinXP *OR* Vista64. I see the option on the Control Panel dialog, but it produces no effect.

Again, I know I should be using the Solidworks plugin, but it isn't working properly either; please see previous post...

Hi Jianju,

sorry for the delay of my answer.

If you check the release notes for 3DxSoftware 3.7.16 from our Download page you can see on page 3, item 2.1 that there were significant changes to the button mapping feature of the SolidWorks addin:
Windows: correction of a long standing issue (ref# 4704) in the SolidWorks add-in button mapping feature. The methods to retrieve and activate application commands have been completely rewritten. The following are the most significant consequences of these changes:

- Most of the commands names and categories listed on the add-in's Button Mapping panel have changed. The new command naming and category structure is a better but not exact match of the application menu;

- Not all previously available commands are now listed on the Button Mapping panel. Conversely, previously unavailable commands can now be mapped to any programmable device button;

- Upgrading over an installation of 3DxSoftware v. 3.7.12 or earlier will cause the SolidWorks add-in button settings to be reset to default. A warning is displayed when upgrading if SolidWorks is installed on the system.
You can now find the commands in the Button Mapping Editor by opening the categories in the list on the left hand side.

What command are you looking for? Please let us know. We might be able to provide a step-by-step description how to map this command to one of the buttons.

Side Buttons

Post by Jianju »

Hello, uludwig,

I like to have "Zoom to Area" on my Right Button, & "Zoom Previous" on the Left. I've come up with a workaround, leaving the Left on "Zoom to Fit" (close enough) & set the Right to "Keyboard: S", with a Keyboard Hotkey mapping 'S' to "Zoom to Area". This works okay, but is not the same as it worked for me in the past.

I checked the version & noticed it showed v2.13.0 *inside* SW09. I made sure I was running the latest drivers, (uninstalled, downloaded again, & reinstalled v3-7-16) but the internal (SW09) version remained the same.

So, I'm content to use my workaround, but wonder why I can 't make these commands appear in the 3D Control Dialog simply by adding the appropriate commands to the "View Tab" using the command configuration dialog.

For the record, I'm running:

Vista64
Dell Precision T3400
Solidworks Premium 2009
Spacenavigator & Bamboo Wacom Tablet

Please let me know if I can provbide any additional information.

Best-

Hi Jianju,

we searched the Button Mapping window of the 3Dconnexion SolidWorks addin and we found "Zoom to Area" and as well "Previous View" in the category "Modify". It sounds like this are the commands you are looking for?

Yes, you're right! Although I'm finding "Undo View Change" rather than "Zoom Previous", but it is the very same function. Thanks for your help.
