"roll" axis works inconsistently

Post by nawoa »

Enjoying my new spacenavigator very much, but I'm having a problem with the "roll" axis - the axis when you twist it in place.

Sometimes it works perfectly fine, other times it's like it gets confused about what direction I'm twisting it. It sort of wobbles the view slightly, or rotates the view the OPPOSITE direction slightly, then goes back to working normal. It messes up for... say, 10 seconds of every minute on average, I'd say.

I've tried holding the base in place and twisting it with the other hand, same problem, so I'm not just doing something stupid.

I problem presents itself for certain in 3DS Max and Blender. I can make a video if it helps...

I'm not sure if the problem is present in Google Earth. When I first got my spacenavigator, it was the only program I had installed which was compatible with it, and I messed around with it for a couple hours. I don't think I noticed any odd behavior.

I think the software recently updated itself, like in the last couple of days... I'm not sure if I noticed the bug before this. Is it a known issue? When will it be fixed?

Thanks

It's not like it's a HUGE issue, I can just tilt the top back and forth to do the same thing, but it's not the same sort of intuitive movement. I'm mostly just worried that my hardware might be defective and I don't want to miss out on my return window if I haven't already.

Thanks

Checking Motions

Post by Bryan »

Dear nawoa,

Double check your settings and try testing in the Jet Demo.
(Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, 3Dconnexion 3DxWare, Demos)

Under the 'App Configuration Tab', leave 'Dominant' unchecked, and have 'Pan/Zoom' checked and 'Tilt/Spin/Roll' checked.

Under the 'Advanced Settings' Tab, all six motions should be checked on and the slider bars centered.

You may also want to experiment with different zoom directions under the 'Device Configuration' Tab.

Sincerely,
Bryan
