NX5 Spaceball 5000 USB doesn't remember configuration
I am running NX5 and I recently switched from a 5000 serial to a 5000 USB. I updated to the newest drivers (MUCH nicer than the old drivers) and I'm happy with the changes- thanks for the updates.
However, here's the trouble- Often times after a restart or a continuation from a stand-by or hibernation, my 5000 doesn't remember the functions. It's weird, I click the 3DXware Panel icon and the control panel will pop up, like it should. But, if I pull down my custom scheme, the functions won't load. If I select a different scheme and jockey around, eventually, it will load my desired custom scheme and then usually work fine for the remainder of the day.
To clarify, questions:
1) In NX Gateway toolbar, I have the 3dNX slection buttons (very handy). I assume this is from the new drivers. If I select the "Button Mapping Editor" from my NX5 Gateway, I can assign all sorts of NX functions to the 5000's buttons.
2) I l also have a shortcut in my task bar (it has the purple & white icon) which clicks me directly to a control panel with a picture of the 5000. This is the same control panel as I had with the serial port drivers.
Are these two control panels contradicting each other? Maybe I should not have that shortcut in the task bar, and that is what is causing the issues?
I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of the new driver software, but maybe there was more items I should have removed?
Sorry about the lengthy post and I hope I explained it clearly. Thanks in advance for suggestions!

Yes the two control panels are contradicting each other. This is because you had a old previously saved configuration from your serial 5000. The best solution is to delete your saved configuration using the 3DxWare control panel (systray icon) and recreate all your changes starting from the default file. If you do that, the 3DxWare panel and the NX panel will synchronize.

The problems are back, possibly worse than ever.
Here's what happens- If I only have one session of NX open, then it seems to work fine. However, if I have two session open, then it gets all confused and doesn't know if it wants to be default, or this configuration or some other configuration which it has brewed up. I can straighten it out and in no time it's back to some new configuration.
Ideas? Thanks for your help.

Here's something else I noticed- If I go into the 3DXware control panel, I can select functions which are not available in the Button Mapping Editor. Two of these functions I like to use- toggle information window and Snap View. I would guess that maybe I shouldn't be selecting functions with the 3DXWare Control Panel?
The two functions- I can create them with the 3DXWare Control panel by either selecting or by making a custom function. But, either approach seems to instigate weird operations.
Again, thanks for any help or suggestions. I'm almost ready to go back to the old serial port drivers.

Where are you "seeing" this configuration? In the 3DxWare control panel or in NX? It was always our intention for you to use only the NX control panel, not the two at the same time. In fact that will be impossible in the next release. I thought we made it next to impossible now to get to the 3DxWare panel when NX is running (clearly we didn't make it difficult enough).
Is the NX panel at least consistent?

I have a shortcut in my toolbar which with a single click will bring up the 3dXware Control Panel. It was easy to create that shortcut. I also have the Button Mapping Editor on my NX Gateway ToolBars. Either one brings up a method to assign command, but of course, the two selection boxes look entirely different. The Control Panel has a picture of a 5000 in the box.
Idea- Should I just not use the Control Panel to assign functions and maybe my problems will go away?
The Control Panel has the pull-down with the configurations available. When I get the inconsistent configurations, these are what I pull down and try to select something else.
It has been a bit more stable today. One thing I noticed, is that sometimes the Button Mapping Editor allows selection of 3DxWare Commands, but other times, there are no commands listed in the "Available Commands" column.
If you would like, I can take a picture of my screen and send it to you. I would certainly be glad to help.
Thanks!

I removed the 3DxWare control panel from the toolbar and then removed any functions which I had selected via the Control Panel. I found the functions I wanted in the Button Mapping Editor and used the Button Mapping Editor to place those functions. The problems have not come back since then and it appears to now be working correctly.
Thanks! :D
Thanks! :D
