Jim,

I see 3.7.16 was released today.

Is this the version that will let me use my SpacePilot with any program by allowing me to program it to send keystrokes to any application when I press a button or move the knob?

Thanks,

Jeron

You have to wait for 3DxWare 7.x, which will be included in a 3DxSoftware 4.x package.

Thanks Jim.

I'd like to take advantage of the upgrade/trade-in of a SpacePilot for a SpacePilot PRO, but I don't want to waste my money if I can't use it for any of the programs I use.

I think that once you guys support the ability to map the buttons and knob/stick movements of your controllers to keystrokes and mouse button clicks, it will pretty much revolutionize your controllers.

I hope that you will extend the upgrade/trade-in offer through the release of the drivers/software that will allow this.

If the SpacePilot PRO supported such behavior, I'd upgrade without thinking twice. Before I upgrade, I want the opportunity to verify that the SpacePilot will work by mapping its controls to keystrokes in any application though.

Anything we do in the future will include SPP support. The SPP is a superior SP if nothing else. Its LCD is much faster and is extensible. I can't tell you to upgrade, but I would if there was a good deal on the table.

Well we are back to the big issue of application support...

Give me drivers that will allow me to program the SPP or SP keys and knob movements to send keystrokes and mouse clicks to any application and I'll upgrade my SP AND buy a dozen more SPPs for the workstations in my shop.

...once I see the drivers that give me the support I need, it is a no brainer.

I'm just hoping that the upgrade offer is still good when the drivers are available. I'd be stupid to upgrade to the SPP while the devices are nothing but paper weights to me.

I'm considering buying a SpacePilot for TrueSpace, Sketchup and ViaCad.. all of which are apparently supported..luckily! Reading all these threads about a "generic driver" are very interesting to me because I have TONS of other apps that I'd like to use the SP with such as DAW software and as for gaming.. Wasnt that the purpose of the driver made by RBC9? Did that not work out? I tried reading that thread but 42 pages is a bit overwhelming..

Hi jwik,

Its been about 3 months since the last time I checked.

Can I download drivers yet that will let me program the buttons and knob movements of my SpacePilot to send keystrokes to ANY application yet?

Is there at least a better eta then the last one you gave, which was mid-April? I'd love to know when I have to buy a new paperweight ;)

Thanks,

Jeron

Mid-April wasn't for 3Dx7. We are working on a beta date for the version you want. Stay tuned to this forum thread.

What version of Windows are you using?

By Mid-April, I was referring to the 10th post in this thread where you said...

"Yes. But it doesn't work well with the driver you have. Wait for the mid-April driver and it'll work somewhat more acceptable. I'll tell you how to use it then. A lot more work is required to make an good general solution to this need. It is being worked on--we do listen to our users (regardless of what you read in this forum)."

jwick,

I'm back for my quarterly "tuning in" to this thread to see if I can use my Spacepilot yet.

Any news at all on when I'll be able to program the buttons and knobs on my Spacepilot to issue keystrokes to any application?

You won't have to wait another quarter.

Send me an NDA! I'm more than ready to beta test. I use applications ALL DAY that have some sort of 3D space to navigate, but none are from developers who are willing to spend their money to create support for your product in their software.

So beta drivers for my Spacepilot probably won't interfere with my productivity.

If you want beta testers then another volunteer here.

I run a SP Pro and also have a Logitech G13 so can check for compatibility with the lcd control app etc.

I'll make a post at the bottom of all these half dozen on-topic threads when the time comes. Everyone who has posted to these threads will be notified. I'll probably lock these threads at that point so the notification doesn't get lost.
