Hi Uta and Fred,
Thanks for your interest and replies. It turns out that Fred was right; I just had to turn off the antivirus when I loaded the driver, and then it worked fine.
No problems now. Hope I don't have to do this for each reboot, but still at least I know how to fix it.

See if yout IT person can make a Exception rule for the Port Scan.. that way it wont block the USB port.
