Hi,

we are working on support for Maya 2010 and it is planned to be ready with the next release. I'd like to ask you to bear with us for some time until the release is ready. Thanks. 8)

How can I be notified when you release the plug in for Maya 2010? I just got the Space Navigator (PE) and I was kind of disappointed to find out that it the plug-in isn't ready. I am running Maya 2010 x64 edition on windows vista. Hopefully it will be ready for that.

Maya 2010 Drivers

Post by Bryan »

Dear Marc10edora,

Occasionally check our 'Driver Download' pages under the Support Menu, to see if a newer version has been released. The accompanying .pdf file will provide notes as to the changes made in that release.

Sincerely,
Bryan

What's the trick to getting it to work with Maya 2009?
Supposedly Maya 2009 *IS* supported, but I can't get it to work. Doesn't do a thing, just sits there looking at me.

It works fine in 3ds max.
It used to work for me in Softimage 2010, but I had to reinstall Softimage 2010 the other day, and now it won't work at all, even after repeatedly reinstalling the drivers.

But back to Maya 2009. Why does it not work?

Try the manual install.

* Manual Installation
Copy the "3dxstd.dlu" file from "C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion Plug-in for 3ds max"
to the "stdplugs" sub-directory of 3dx max.
Copy "3DxStudio.chm" to the help sub-directory
If you are using 3ds max 5 and higher copy 3DxStudio.ms to the scripts\startup sub-directory.
That's all.

* Loading the plug-in

- First use of the plug-in:
i) In order to use the SpaceMouse/SpaceBall, you must make sure that the driver is running;
ii) Start 3ds max, the plug-in should now be loaded and a banner is displayed.

- Automatic load of the plug-in:
No action is required if 3DxStudio.ms is located in the scripts\startup directory

Not sure if it will work i believe Maya made additional changes in their Application so the current plugin may need to be rewritten or modified.

They barely changed a thing in terms of features...

Umm....
Ok, thank you, Fred, and I'll take all that into consideration if and when I have problems with 3ds Max.
You might notice, however, I said that it was working fine with 3ds Max and it was Maya 2009 I asked about. ;)

Sorry i was replying to 2 different posts at one time.

* Manual Installation
Copy the Melscripts to the "scripts\startup" sub-directory of Maya,
and the bitmap files to the Maya "icons" directory.
Copy 3DxMaya.mll to "bin\plug-ins"
Copy the 3DxHelp directory to "docs\ext"

That's all!

* Loading the plug-in

- First use of the plug-in:
i) In order to use the 3DxConnexion device, you must make sure that 3DxWare/Xdriver is running;
ii) Start Maya.

Maya automatically loads the usersetup.mel which in turn starts the 3Dconnexion support for the device.
The MagellanStartup.mel should now be loaded and a button with the 3Dxconnexion logo is displayed in the
status line. You may if you wish drag and drop this button to another shelf.
Clicking on the button will open/close the 3Dconnexion Maya GUI.
Should you have a usersetup.mel in your user local directory then MagellanStartup will not have executed.
To start the device support execute "MagellanStartup" from the script editor. To have MagellanStartup
automatically execute when Maya is started then add the line

MagellanStartup;

to your usersetup.mel
