Space Navigator unstable in AutoCAD 2008
I just purchased and installed SN on my maching at work. I am testing it to see if I want to roll it out to about 50 machines. I am finding it to be quite unstable. I have had several lock-ups and just had a complete crash where AutoCAD just disapeared without warning. Have others had this problem? What have you done to remedy the problem?
I have thought about trying the RBC9 driver, but this looks like a lot of overkill for what we do, and I am not sure it would be feasable to roll out to 50 machines in two countries.

I've had the same issues in both AutoCAD 2007 and 2008, it's unusable for the most part even when it doesn't lockup AutoCAD. Fortunately we're moving towards SolidWorks where it works wonderfully.
Another note: the RBC9 driver is pretty raw, I tinkered around with it for a while and it's fine after some work, but it's simply not fluid enough to replace the actual functionality on all the axes. I wouldn't want to be the one to support / maintain it on a network deployment.

The constant answer from the 3Dconnexion people is that AutoCAD is too difficult of an environment to develop for, so I wouldn't expect it to progress much farther, if at all, than it already has. There are numerous topics on the subject in this forum from various users.

Sorry for my late reply. We are aware of a problem with AutoCAD and we are working on this. I think and hope this will be resolved soon.
Could you tell me how to reproduce the "AutoCAD-command-crash"?

Hi dkosburn,
There has been progress and 3Dconnexion is working actively with Autodesk to address some issues reported by customers.

There are two situations I am aware of on my system (AutoCAD 2008 / CADWorx Plant 2008 / XP).
If I am in a command (most times) and try to change view with SN I get a fatal error and a "normal" AutoCAD shutdown with recovery.
Yesterday, just before my post, I simply touched my SN an AutoCAD disappeared without warning.
I do like the product and hope to be able to deploy it to my entire group, but need to wait until some of the bugs ae worked out.

Yes. This is a known issue and we are addressing it with Autodesk. Please refer to this thread.clarkrj wrote:If I am in a command (most times) and try to change view with SN I get a fatal error and a "normal" AutoCAD shutdown with recovery.

AutoCad2008 crashes with SpaceNavigator
Where does this issue currently stand? I just bought at SN and am using Autocad2008. I just installed it this morning, using the drivers off the website. I can pan and zoom etc on its own but when I have commands running the program crashes (I am not necessarily doing anything with the SN at the time). If the program is inactive it will sit there without crashing until I start working again and commands given.
When I uninstall the SN the problem goes away. I am using Windows XP w/ SP3 intel Core 2 quad cpu Q6600 @2.4GHz 1.98 GB Ram.

Re: AutoCad2008 crashes with SpaceNavigator
Hi jhaliburton,
the issue mentioned in this thread was solved. We are not aware about crashes with the current driver. Could you please provide us with a detailed scenario? If you have a dump crash that might be helpful, too. Just let us know and I will send you an email address where to send this dump file.

Dump File
Please let me know where I can send the dump file and how I get the dump file.
The freezing continues. As soon as I go to select something it freezes up. If I am able to get it to click and then type m for move it freezes again.
It is impossible to work with this mouse. I have to uninstall it to get any work down.
It is very frustrating.
