World wind and space pilot pro

Post by Celorfilmarr »

Hello, I was excited to try my new space pilot pro with worldwind. The plugin is loaded but it does not read any input. Looking at the supported devices it looks like this was perhaps made before The space pilot pro was launched so I'm supposing this newer device just isn't compatible with the plugin?

Is there any update planned for this? If not, what could I be doing wrong? Ive tried several restarts, it just doesn't listen to the space pilot, if I check joystick it listens to it, but only a few directions.

Thanks!

WorldWind and SpacePilot PRO

Dear Celorfilmarr,

What version of WorldWind are you using?

What operating system?

What release version of 3DxSoftware?
(3Dconnexion Control Panel, Help, About)

What do you mean only a few directions?

Sincerely,
Bryan

We re-ran our tests with the latest build of our Windows software, 3DxWorldWind and NASA World Wind 1.4. All checked out well.

I downloaded and installed worl dwind 1.4
Running windows 7 ultimate
3dxSoftware: Release version 3.8.1, Driver version 6.8.1, firware version 4.11

Space pilot pro

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear with only a few directions. What I meant was that when the device didn't work at all, even after plugin for the software was loaded inside world wind, I also tried enabling the "joystick" plugin that comes with world wind. After doing that, the program responded to the space pilot pro but only on a few axi or degrees of freedom, essentially as if it was a joystick - no tilt or anything like that.

In world wind, the plug in Load/unload menu, when clicking on 3dconnexion the description reads:

Driver for 3- dim input device from 3dconnexion, 1.0.3

Hi Celorfilmarr,

We're trying to find more information on the "joystick plug-in" you referred to.

From you last report, it seems that you have not installed the 3Dconnexion plug-in, 3DxWorldWind. Is that correct?

Have you seen the information on the 3Dconnexion Labs page about World Wind? If not, please have a look and report back here.

Oh no I certainly do, and it is loaded successful into World wind.

The first thing I did was read all through that page, which was what initially promted my post here, because it says that it should work with all current devices, but space pilot pro was not on the list. I presume that that means this was made a ways before the pro was released, and therefore support for that specific device may not work with that plugin from Labs.

I just purchased it a short time ago and followed every instruction on the labs page, so no components are missing. It is likely just an issue of being a newer device than the software was written for?

We've also tested the current solution on Windows 7 and see no problems with World Wind 1.4

Celorfilmarr, have you perhaps change how the application is ran? For example, are you running the application as "administrator" or similar?

Ive tried both. Ive uninstalled the 3dx world wind plugin and re-installed it, as well as installing it from within world wind.

No idea why but it just isn't working. Was the space pilot PRO the version you tested on windows 7? Was it a 32 or 64 bit machine? My computer is 64bit, and the installer is 32bit. Im not certain that in this case it would make a difference, but thats one thing to check at any rate.

World Wind 1.4 is available only as a 32-bit executable. The plug-in needs to be built for that same target platform. It should work equally well on 32- and 64-bit systems.

To answer your question, we did try a SpacePilot PRO on a 32-bit Windows 7 install. We will check if we can verify the application on an x64 build of Win7.
