Hi Malcolm,

Yes, all work on the Citrix solution is on hold.

So, is there no chance that the existing drivers will work with my setup? If so, that's a real bummer that I have a $400 piece of equipment that I can only use the 10% of my time that I work locally (vs 90% in Citrix).

There are a few issues that are causing problems:

1) Citrix changed their plugin installation procedure. The installation could be done manually as you suggested. It isn't complicated. It's a standard ICA client.

2) Mixture of 32-bit and 64-bit clients/drivers and apps. Getting all the correct DLLs in the right place hurts my brain <G>. Theoretically, 32-bit things should be able to talk to 64-bit things. It is a bit surprising that they don't have a 64-bit API.

I don't think these are insurmountable problems, we just don't have the resources to work on it at this time.

Last time we tried to work on this, it took 6 hours on the phone with a Citrix AE to get the 64-bit Citrix server to install and license. And now our licenses have all expired. You'd think you'd just type "setup.exe"...but no...

Jim

(We also want you to make use of your device more than 10% of the time.)

Well, if I can be of any help or do any legwork (i.e. calls/research with Citrix), trials, testing, etc., please give me a call or send me a message. I'd really like to get this working with Citrix.

Citrix support moving yet?

Post by greenfield »

We are getting ready to move our entire engineering team over to the XenApp 6 environment with HDX acceleration. It's very important to them that their Space Mouse devices will work under Citrix--this will be key to adoption/acceptance.

Like many companies, we are consolidating the software on Citrix to better utilize the hardware rather than buy tons of high end individual hardware.

Has the Citrix driver issue been given any more thought? Has anyone had success already in getting the Space Mouse working under Xen App?

Thanks!

Citrix support is pretty much dead in the water, from lack of customer interest.

The old solution might work with the old driver, but it will not work with 3DxWare 10. A new development project would have to be created for it.

XenApp/Citrix Support

Post by greenfield »

We only have about 20 engineers, but this would be huge to be able to use the space mouse with XenApp (we are Server 2008R2 (64 bit) with XA 6)

I can't speak for everyone, but I would suspect that as time goes on this feature will become more and more important for users of 3d controllers.

Do you have any recommendations as far as what we as a customer can do to help get this moved to active development?

thanks!

The best way to make this happen, is to bug your Citrix salesperson. The real solution here is not to produce a plugin like we did in the past (basically a proof of concept), but to take the approach that everyone else has successfully taken (HP Remote Graphics, and others). And that is, to simply expose the USB ports through their engine. We have talked to Citrix extensively about this. It is going to take customer requests to make this happen. That would be beneficial for all USB devices, not just the 3Dx devices.

Citrix and usb port exposure

Post by greenfield »

Great, thanks for the info.

We have some contacts we can work on regarding that end of things.

I will also see if we can get some leverage through AutoDesk since it benefits them as well.

What Autodesk apps are you running? What's your main app?
