I have the same problem. I´m using a Space Pilot for 3D navigation in SolidWorks. I have had the unit for several years and have had no problems like this. It started some weeks ago. After I finish zooming or rotating an object the object moves away and starts to rotate and move sideways. I have tested the Space Pilot on another computer and there it works fine. I have tested reinstalling, tested new driver, disconnecting etc but the problem remains. What can cause this problem?

Are you on windows 7? 64 or 32 bit?
Chantal.
Latest update is:
I connected the spacenavigator to my other computer, windows xp professional. This is the pc I used the mouse on for almost 2 years, smooth and wonderful, till january 2010. And to my surprise, same problem there too now!
On windows 7 64 bits i cannot pan to the right at all,
on windows xp professional i can pan a little bit if i go extremely slow, but it does tilt upwards slowly too...so no clean pan possible there anymore too.

I tend to disagree, because I now tried the spacenavigator on 3 different computers. Same problem on all 3 pc's.
maybe new drivers from 3DConnexion in the future might make my spacenavigator functional again. Till that time, i will have to live without pans to the right in my films.
If you are experiencing the same bad behavior in all your applications, in all the demos, on different machines, on a setup that had previously been working okay, you may have a problem with your input device. If the device is still within warranty, you may call our support desk for further trouble shooting concerning that.

I have this exact same issue, I have this issue in Google Earth. It appears that for zooming (up/down motion) it sends both the zoom and one of the tilt axes simultaneously while I'm clearly only using one of the axes. I've done everything suggested here, removing config directory, etc. I'm running the latest driver (3.10.1) on Windows 7 64 bit. This problem has persisted 2 fresh installs of Windows 7 x64. To help you guys out, I tested it on a 32 bit Windows 7 machine and the issue still persists. The last time I remember this device functioning properly was on Windows XP (32 bit), so clearly something is wrong in your Windows 7 code. Please fix this, it makes your devices unusable in Windows 7. Using a SpaceNavigator.
Actually looking at KAZL's post it looks like the newer drivers are the culprit on all Windows systems. My guess is the older drivers that didn't have this issue were only compatible with XP, which is why it looks like a Windows 7 issue. Regardless, you guys really need to test your driver.
I just tried the 3d cube demo and experimented with disabling various axes, and it experiences the exact same problem. Of note, only the zoom axis (up/down on the controller) and tilt axis (forward/back, not left/right) seem to be affected, all other motions correctly control only one motion each. It's almost as if the Y tilt axis and zoom axis have been linked together in the driver. I'm willing to test any beta drivers you can send at me to resolve this issue.
What zoom direction do you have selected under the 'Device Configuration' Tab in the '3Dconnexion Control Panel'? What do you experience if you choose the other zoom direction?
Sincerely,
Bryan

Hard to explain, here are the features in the advanced settings. Each of them works fine when it is the only axis enabled.
Pan Right/Left: works fine when only Pan Up/Down is enabled with it
Zoom (up/down): this goes to hell when Pan Up/Down, Tilt, or Spin is enabled with it, fine with Pan Left/Right, issue only on downward axis with Roll enabled
Pan Up/Down (forward/back): works right with Pan Right/Left only
Tilt: Goes to hell with Spin enabled
Roll: Goes to hell with tilt enabled
To sum things up, you have some serious issues with your SpaceNavigator driver. I'm not the only one having this issue and I can reproduce it on multiple computers. I shouldn't have to be giving you this info, how can you be letting these major issues into your production drivers? Thankfully I don't use this thing for any critical work such as 3D modelling.
Bryan: No, I tried it for a bit in google earth but got very erratic behavior as the axes are fighting.
jwick: to prove this, I'm going to install XP to a tertiary computer with the driver I last used that worked (3.6.8 I believe) and whether or not that works will prove if this is driver or hardware.
