SpacePilot Pro makes Sketchup Bugsplat

Post by d12dozr »

I just got my SpacePilot Pro today, installed the latest driver from 3dconnexion website (I'm on Vista 64-bit), and when I open Sketchup I get an immediate bugsplat. It doesn't matter if the SpacePilot is plugged in or not...instant bugsplat! SpacePilot works just fine in Google Earth, so I suspect it has something to do with the Ruby plugin for Sketchup.

Hi d12dozr,

did you try Sketchup without the support for the SpacePilot PRO? Just to make sure the reason is in the 3Dconnexion extension. Go to the Control Panel and open ARP (Add or Remove Programs). Do a "Change" to the 3DxSoftware and select "Modify". De-select the tickbox for "3Dconnexion Extension for Sketchup" and continue with the installation.

Please let me know your results.

Uta,

Sketchup works fine after following your instructions above. It was working fine yesterday as well. I should have mentioned that for the few seconds before Sketchup crashed, a 3dconnexion splash screen was visible like it was trying to load.

I have many other Ruby plugins installed as well, maybe there is a clash with one of them?

Thanks,
Marcus

Now when I try to enable the Sketchup plugin from the control panel, I get an error message:
"The feature you are trying to use is now currently available."

I reinstalled the driver and cleaned out my Sketchup Plugins folder and now everything works just perfect! I don't know exactly what caused the bugsplat, but I think it was an old plugin -- I deleted several ones that I don't use anymore but still have about 40, but no troubles with them.
