Replacement for 4000FLX?

Post by fishchoke »

My company just upgraded from SW 2007 to SW 2010 (long story, don't ask). This means that I can no longer use my Spaceball 4000FLX (which I really like) because of the expired driver support issue.

I found a Spaceball 5000 USB on ebay which I like. Will that work with SW 2010?

The Spaceball 5000 USB supports SW 2010. but you will have the same problem down the road when upgrading to later versions if the AI gets changed again in Solidworks.

Looks like that might already be the case. On the drivers download site, they have the 3DxSoftware you can download and then they have the SolidWorks 97 - 99 plug-in, but nothing that says it works with SW 2010. Will the "97-99" plug in work with SW 2010? Which driver(s) should I be downloading here?

Alternately, I've read that one can get a usb-serial adapter, put that on a 4000FLX, and then use the 5000 driver(s). In that case, which driver(s) should I use?

We donot support using a USB converter,
The Spaceball 5000 driver will not recognize the Spaceball 4000.

Current driver for the Spaceball 5000 usb.
Is 3.7.22
This includes support for SW 2010.

While the 4000 FLX is no longer supported, it has been suggested that doing this will make it work with SW 2010:
x
Download 3DxSoftware_v2-8-2.exe
Download 3DxSoftware_v3-7-22.exe
x
Run 3DxSoftware_v2-8-2.exe
Select custom installation
Check ONLY 3Dconnexion 3DxWare, v. 5.09.0002
When the website comes up to register just x out of that.
x
Run 3DxSoftware_v3-7-22.exe
Select custom installation
Check ONLY 3Dconnexion Add-In for SolidWorks v. 2.15.1
When the website comes up to register just x out of that.
