Space Pilot not working in Maya 8.0

Post by jdawg520 »

I am trying to use my space pilot in Maya 8.0, but there is no interaction. The screen on the space pilot indicates that maya is open and givesme the shortcuts, but none of the buttons work nor does that navigator. I'm assuming that there is a problem with the plug-in. Just to be clear, I am using an old space pilot not the new "pro".

try typing MagellanStartup in the command line.

Im not a 2008 user, but it may help.

SpacePilot in Maya 8.0

The SpacePilot working in Maya 8 depends on MagellanStartup being executed by the usersetup.mel or being typed in. If the plug-in is installed , when you type MagellanStartup in the script editor, the SpacePilot works in Maya.To have it auto-start, you will need to add the MagellanStartup; line to the end of the usersetup.mel [described in the 3Dconnexion Plug-In for Maya Readme].

I typed in "MegellanStartup," and I get "Cannot find Procedure." Looks like the plug-in is not installed. I checked the Plug-in Manager as well and couldn't find it.

I used the Spaceball installation sofware which I was told was supposed to install the plug-in automatically. Is there anywhere I can get the plug-in and install it manually?

SpacePilot in Maya 8.0

There is a manual method for copy the plug-in files , but first your can try letting the installer add them using the Repair function in Add/Remove Software. [Windows ControlPanel- Add/Remove Software – 3Dconnexion – Modify|Repair]

You should have a "3Dconnexion Plug-In for Maya 2008" sub-folder in your Windows Start menu [Start|Programs|3DConnexion|3Dconnexion Plug-In for Maya 2008]. You can check that MagellanStartup.mel, C3DxButtonEditor.mel, C3DxControlPanel.mel, C3DxMapping.mel and userSetup.mel are installed in the "scripts-startup" of Maya.

The default path for 3DxMaya32 is C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware.

Here is the manual installation:
* Manual Installation
Copy the Melscripts to the "scripts\startup" sub-directory of Maya,
and the bitmap files to the Maya "icons" directory.
Copy 3DxMaya.mll to "bin\plug-ins"
Copy the 3DxHelp directory to "docs\ext"
