Spacepilot spins on all axis after ~ 10 mins use.

Post by gavztheouch »

Hi I have just received one of the old style spacepilots it seems like a great tool. I am having problems with it after about 10mins use or so it starts to spin randomly in all axis making it totally unusable.

I phoned the support line who were great and suggested in may be low power from my usb on my laptop causing the unit to reset its zero point.

Just wanted to confirm with others that this may be the problem before I invest in aux powered usb hub.

Many thanks

Hello Gavin

Usually the best way to address unwanted movement is with calibration.

Open the 3Dconnexion ControlPanel and with the SpacePilot on a flat surface and nothing touching the cap, press Calibrate.Calibration does not provide a visible signal. Mis-calibration can occur if the relaxed position of the cap is slightly changed, then as the cap moves back to the original relaxed position, the sensor detects this movement and sends the data to the application causing the unwanted movement.

If the initial calibration does not correct the problem, try holding the cap away from center for several seconds, releasing it, then calibrating again.

The 3Dconnexion devices do need a consistent power supply - this is the reason direct connection to a USB port is supported rather than connection through a hub, monitor or adapter. The power from your laptop USB ports should be sufficient to power the SpacePilot.

Hello,

After trying my mouse on 4 different laptops and desktops, the same problem exists :( . Does anyone know of any tips to diagnose the problems with my mouse?

Cheers

Hello Gavin -

Have you tried the step mentioned above - intentionally move the cap away from center, calibrate , allow the cap to return to center then calibrate again ?

This can sometimes correct a calibration issue that an initial calibration misses.
