3dxstd.dlu problem with Max 2010 and Space Explorer Pro

Post by LeeC22 »

I am using the SE Pro in Win 7 64-bit, with Max 2010 SP1.

Installed the latest software yesterday, v3-12-2_r1029, and the control panel refused to load in Max.

Uninstalled and tried the previous release, v3-11-3_r955, and the control panel also refuse to load.. (I presume I downloaded this and didn't install... not used my SE for a good while.)

Uninstalled again, and tried an earlier version, v3-9-0, and it worked perfectly. Luckily, I keep all versions of the drivers I ever download, archived.

The fact that an earlier version worked fine, indicates that since moving to "release" versions, there has been an inherent problem with each version. Is this a known problem, and is there a solution?

The actual windows drivers seems to work fine, SE lights up etc... It just appears to be the .dlu file that is the problem.

3dxstd.dlu problem with Max 2010

Post by Barbara »

Hello Lee -

From 3DxSoftware Release 3.11.1 to Release 3.11.2, there were major changes in the plugin for 3DsMax. The old 3Dconnexion interface for 3DsMax has been replaced by the 3D Mouse Pop-Up Menu which is opened using the Panel button on a SpaceExplorer or the Menu button on a SpacePilotPRO.

The splash screen and other panels have been removed. The 3D Mouse Pop-Up Menu has all of the controls for your 3D device - you should find everything you need on this new panel.

With the current Release 3.12.2 of the Version 6.12 Driver, as long as 3DsMax is closed during the 3Dconnexion installation so that the plug-in is properly installed, you should have the Pop-Up Menu available. In the 3Dconnexion Button Configuration, you should see it mapped to the Panel button on a SpaceExplorer.

Ah, so there is no longer a splash screen that appears when Max loads, is that right?

Thanks Barbara

Oops, I really need some reading practice... I mentally skipped the part where you said "The splash screen and other panels have been removed", sorry. :D

You can find a screenshot of the new 3ds Max Pop-Up Menu in the user manual. The folder structure in the 3Dconnexion folder on the Start menu has changed as well. Instead of individual folders, the plug-in information is now in the Supported Applications section of the manual. [Start, Programs,3Dconnexion,Documentation - Manuals - English Manual - Supported Applications - Autodesk 3ds Max]

The change from the old interface to the pop-up menu is described in a window named '3D Mouse News' that should load the first time 3DsMax is opened after the plug-in is installed. It has a 'Do not show this window again' option so it usually gets turned off - or perhaps for some reason it didn't open.
