The application's forums and support are the right place.
Cinema4D and Vue provide internal support for 3D devices and use only the basic 3Dconnexion driver. They do not use 3Dconnexion software for navigation as applications like SketchUp and SolidWorks do.
When support for 3D devices is added to an application, the application editor decides how the various functions are enabled. Since this can vary from one application to the next, their technical support provides the information about using 3Dconnexion devices inside their software.
In some cases there are options within the applications that enable 3D device support and they can be specific to the application version.
In Cinema 4D Release 12, for instance ,the controls are under Window > 3Dconnexion > 3D Mouse Dialog. Leaving the '3D Mouse Dialog' window open enables the SpaceExplorer.
We can help with applications that use our plug-ins or add-ins but with Cinema4D and Vue, you will want to make use of their forums and support.

I just received the SpaceExplorer yesterday, downloaded the driver for
Vista/C4D, and am learning to use the controls.
Initially the mouse and C4D were not communicating even after installing the drivers, but now they have found each other and I hope they will have a happy marriage.
I hope to be able to promote the 3D mouse as a beneficial tool to help
with the workflow in C4D & VUE.

Can you give me an example of what functions are supported in Sketchup that would be missing in C4D or VUE?
Actually its not a question of functions missing but of which software the functions come from. In either case you can map your SpaceExplorer buttons from the 3DConnexion Control Panel.
One difference you will see when the 3Dconnexion software controls navigation is the interface inside the application - the way program features are accessed.
The 3Dconnexion Pop-Up Menu for SketchUp allows you to easily reach frequently used 3D Mouse functions and settings. It can be opened with the SpaceExplorer's Menu button. The manual has a screenshot.
