Space Navigator and Photoshop...

Post by coccosoids »

Hello again,

Is my space navigator supposed to work with photoshop CS5 out of the box, like it does with Rhino 4? Or do I need to install anything else? I'm on windows 7... and I can't get any response from it when I'm in PS.

Thanks,
Barbara

Space Navigator and Photoshop

Hello coccosoids -

With Rhino the support for 3D devices is built into the application. Photoshop CS5 requires a 3Dconnexion plugin - 3DxPhotoshop - to work with our devices.

If 3DxPhotoshop is installed, you will see it listed in Photoshop's File-Automate menu. If CS5 was installed after the 3Dconnexion software, you can add the plugin by running the Repair function in Add/Remove Software [Win 7 Programs and Features] with Photoshop CS5 closed. The plugin [3DxPhotoshopCS5.8li ] can also be installed by copying it to the CS5 plugins folder.

3DxPhotoshop provides the ability to pan and zoom. If you can pan but not zoom, un-check 'Zoom with scroll wheel' in the Photoshop Preferences - General section.

When CS5 is opened with 3DxPhotoshop installed, there is a prompt to create a shortcut key for it.The shortcut is used internally to provide the ability to change the brush size by twisting the SpaceNavigator cap. This forum thread shows the steps to create the shortcut - they are the same as in CS3. You will find the Automate section in the Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts window in the same menu structure as in the Photoshop menu. Photoshop needs to be re-started after creating the shortcut for the change to take effect.
