Maya 2012 Weird Behaviour with SpacePilot Pro

Post by Valen Wagner »

I am using the latest 3.13.0 driver. This is a fresh install of Maya 2012 and the 3DConnexion driver.

Is anyone else having problems with the "Dominant", "Rotations", and "Pan/Zoom" buttons on the SpacePilot Pro?

When I press mine, it rotates the view and activates either the "scale" or the "rotate" tool. This is not normal.

What I like to do with these buttons is remap them the "w", "e", and "r" keys. This always worked fine in the past. But now it seems to ignore the remapping and just does the weird behavior I described above...

Any help out there?

Hi Valen,

can you check with another application if the buttons work correctly? With Google Earth for example?

Had you previously used the SpaceExplorer on this machine?

I am using a SpacePilot Pro.

Actually, I just tested in 3ds Max 2012 and it has the same problem. This is very odd. Do you have any ideas as to what is causing this?

Here's what I ended up doing that fixed it...

(1) Find and delete the "Logitech" folders and registry keys. I'm not sure if this made a difference or not.
(2) Remove the driver (again) and delete the left over files and registry keys per the "clean removal" instructions.
(3) Restart.
(4) Downloaded and installed the drivers for the SpaceExplorer (I have one of those too).
(5) Plug in the SpaceExplorer, and open the 3DConnexion Control Panel and calibrate it.
(5) Restart.
(6) Open up Maya and 3ds Max and make some custom settings with the SpaceExplorer.
(7) Restart.
(8) Uninstall the SpaceExplorer drivers and unplug it.
(9) Restart.
(10) Install the SpacePilot Pro drivers.

Everything works fine after doing the above steps. (other than the Maya driver problem that still persists - it will not recognize sub-object selections for determining center of rotation. Please please please fix this so it works like 3ds Max!)

Thanks,
Valen

The Problem is not with your 3D connexion device.

The problem is in maya 2012.
One way to solve your problem in maya is to disable left and right scrolling on your mouse. maya 2012 uses different key settings then 2011 making it conflict because the buttons have double use in 2012 where it had no use at all in 2011. that will set the controls of your 3D connection device back to normal. Where and how this conflicts with the 3D connection hardware i dont know but it does work sorting your controls out.

How ever i have just uninstalled maya 2012 and going back to 2011

Maya 2012 has pour support for the (for what i am using ) space explorer and makes maya 2012 behave strange and crash after trying to use tools settings and a few other options in maya.

maya 2012 is very unstable and full of bugs i would compare it to windows millennium hahaha.

I reckon go back to the stable 2011 version of maya ( you wont miss any big changes anyway)
