Windows 7 & Inventor Installation

Post by deefield »

Hope someone can help . I am having issues loading the software for my Space Navigator mouse.
Windows 7. Inventor 2012 . x64 system. This is on a works computer so everything was done at first by remote administrator. Although the mouse moved things in inventor and sketchup, any settings for the buttons in 3d mouse home panel didnt carry through to inventor and there isnt any mention of sketchup in the panel or in sketchup itself ( as an addin with a toolbar etc ).
Did a clean uninstall as per website instructions, (with the administrator), downloaded the latest software x64 v3-13-1-r1128 on another machine using Google chrome, and saved it to this desktop.
On running the install a message came up " Please insert disk 1 that contains the file layout.bin " with the path c:\Users\*Adminsname*\AppData\local\Temp\pft76FS.tmp... which could not be found.

The admnistrator tried installing with himself logged in, and the install failed due to " a Windows problem ".

Tried it also with myself as administrator, clean uninstall etc. installed Ok with no error messages but only works as before, i.e no button settings etc and no appearance in Sketchup.

Any suggestions will be most welcome. Loved the mouse when it was working OK in Inventor 2011 ! Kind Regards

Windows 7 & Inventor Installation

Hello Deefield -

The new 3Dconnexion software works a bit differently than some of the previous versions. The toolbars have been replaced with pop-up menus that are linked to the left SpaceNavigator button.

In Inventor you should find 'Customize buttons' in the pop-up menu. This opens the 3DxInventor ButtonMapping Editor. To prevent the SpaceNavigator buttons from being reset you will need to map them in the 3DxInventor Button Mapping Editor rather than the 3Dconnexion Control Panel. The internal button mapping editors such as 3DxInventor are designed to have priority over the 3Dconnexion Control Panel.

In addition to saving your button mapping correctly , the 3DxInventor editor has a number of Inventor commands available.

SketchUp has the same type of pop-up window but does not have an internal button editor.

With both Inventor and SketchUp you should initially see the 3DMouseNews window when the application opens. It has a check box that can be un-checked to prevent it from continuing to open.

If you do not see the 3DMouseNews and do not have a pop-up menu opening with the left SpaceNavigator button , it would indicate the application plug-ins are not installed.SketchUp and Inventor need to be closed to install the plug-ins.You can run the installation again making sure the applications are closed and you should see the 3DMouseNews windows when you re-open them.

Windows 7 & Inventor Software Installation

Post by deefield »

Hello Barbara. Thank you for your prompt reply. I did find the Button mapping editor (just named this -- not 3dxInventorButton Mapping Editor as per your reply), however the 'New' and 'Delete ' buttons are greyed out as is the window with the name of the current assembly etc in it. (I would like to attach a screen shot but I hope you understand what I am seeing!). I can find the return command in the middle pane (by selecting all commands in the LH pane), and I can drag that command into the RH button box, however this does not function when pressing the button. Also in the home / News page only 'Any application' and 'Inventor' are listed ( not sketchup ) and any button assignments are lost in Inventor. I tried again installing the software. after a clean uninstall, with all apps closed all to no avail. Just wondering if I should reinstall Inventor ( I have done a 'Repair' to do with other issues in Inventor ). Look forward to hearing back from you. Kind Regards David Field .. ( Deefield! )
