SpaceExplorer stops working after reboot...
Good Morning,
I am running SolidWorks 2010 SP4.0 on Windows 7 with a 3Dconnexion SpaceExplorer USB input device.
A few days ago the 3D mouse stopped working with SolidWorks. It works with Altium and PTC-Solid Designer. I have installed the updated software. I have uninstalled the drivers, and then reinstalled them. I have uninstalled SolidWorks and reinstalled... I can get it working, but when I reboot, it stops working on SW alone.
Has anyone seen this problem before?

What OS are you running?
Win 7?
Is Solidworks installed to run as administrator?
You should be able to install the application without running as admin.
Otherwise you'll have to run our driver with the save priviledges, win 7 wont let the addin run.
Go to the startup folder right click on the start driver icon choose properties, compatibility at the bottom chose run as administrator
save
Reboot pc and see if the add-in loads and the device is recognized.
There is a feature in SW that in the past would uncheck the Solidworks addin. not sure where its located or why it would do it.
You can manually launch the addin by going to:
File
Open
Change file type to All files
Browse to:
C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxSolidWorks32
Choosse the TdxSW32.dll this will launch the addin.
Path will very depending on if your running 64 or 32 bit application and OS.

Hi Fred,
I wanted to let you know that I had success this morning manually starting up SolidWorks and the driver for my SpaceExplorer.
To answer a couple of your questions....
Thank you for your help.
I greatly appreciate it.
Paul.

To answer a couple of your questions....
If I changed SW back to run in regular mode compared to "Admin" and I changed the 3DxWare back to regular mode, do you think they might play better together?Fred wrote:What OS are you running? Win 7? ... Yes, Win-7
Is Solidworks installed to run as administrator? ... Yes, Would that cause problems from the start?

Reboot pc and see if the add-in loads and the device is recognized. .... I did this and had to manually start the driver... Which is fine since it seems to be working for now.
Thank you for your help.
I greatly appreciate it.

It seems that was my problem all along...
SolidWorks had been set to run as administrator and the 3DxWare driver was set to run normally. So SW did not recognize or run it.
After setting both applications back to run normally, everything appears to be functioning as it should be.
Thank You very much for your help with this.
