I am using a SpaceExplorer with Pro-E Wildfire 3.0 M230 in Windows XP Pro SP3 in a Linux workstation through VMWare. My 3DxWare release version is currently 3.14.2.
The spaceball worked with no issues until recently. When I use the spaceball now, there is about 1/2 second delay and then motion(translation, zooming, or panning) 2-3 seconds after I let go of the spaceball. I've tried clicked on the calibrate button, but nothing changes.
One thing to note is that motion in Pro-E works correctly only if the 3DxWare properties is open and is the selected window (Pro-E in the background). If the 3DxWare application is in the background or in the taskbar, I have the motion issues.
The spaceball has no issues with other applications (NX, demos, etc). Let me know if anyone has experienced this or have suggestions on how to resolve it. Thanks in advance!

Actually we do not officially support the use of the 3D mouse in a virtual machine. But from our own experience it should work properly.
What did change recently? Did you make an update to one of the components? (Linux?, Windows?, VMWare?, ProE?, ...)
Or did you install a new antivirus software?

I don't know exactly what changed. I don't think it was an update to Pro-E. I suspect it was either an update to VMWare or Windows.
I used it for over 3 years in VMWare through various versions of Pro-E including WF3 with no issues. The issue occured with my Spaceball 5000 USB. I thought the problem was due to lack of support of this unit, so I purchased the SpaceExplorer. Unfortunately, both have the same disease.

Is ProE the only application that you are using with the 3D mouse?
Do you see a delay with the Cube3D demo, too? Or with Google Earth for example?

Pro-E is the only application that has the issue. The Cube3D demo works fine in the same computer. Motion in NX also works correctly, but it is in another computer.

Trend Micro Office Scan. This software constantly gets updated, so the spaceball could have stopped working after an update the anti-virus software.

I unfortunately cannot remove any of the updates, so I need to find other means to get the spaceball functioning again.

Check your antivirus software if you can create an exception for the driver process (3dxsrv).
