How to copy a button setup to a newer version of Maya

Post by mattcscz »

Hi guys, I really don't want to go through the mapping procedure again, I have a set-up I really like in Maya 08 is it not possible to just copy it over?

Also I can't assign in 2011 because of my dodgy software, it broke and I was never fully able to fix it, so it doesn't read keys as inputs for some reason but functions work.

Thanks

How to copy a button setup to a newer version of Maya

Hi mattcscz -

I think the reason there has not been an answer thus far to your question is that there is not an 'easy' way to do this because of the difference between versions. The steps would involve manual editing of a profile so would be more difficult than just mapping the buttons in the new version.

What I want to check on is the problem you mentioned of it not reading keys as inputs. To map buttons in Maya you need to be using the button editor inside Maya. Have you been using this editor ? It has categories and commands specific to Maya rather than the general commands available in the 3Dconnexion Button Mapping. You can open it with 'Customize Buttons' from the pop-up menu inside Maya. This button editor has drag and drop functionality as well as an 'Assign To' option with the right mouse button.

If there is some part of this that is not working for you we can take steps to correct that - then you would have the ability to map buttons easily any time as you should. I hope that may be more useful than trying to adapt a profile from another version.
