I have a spacepilot using windows xp 64 and solidworks 2011.
I am having trouble naming and saving my own config. for the top 6 buttons.
I would like the display to read My Config. then list the 6 buttons I use most.

SolidWorks button mapping needs to be done from the Customize Buttons editor inside SolidWorks 2011. Buttons mapped from 3Dconnexion Properties return to defaults since the editor inside the application has priority.
In SolidWorks with a document open , choose 'Customize Buttons' from the 3Dx pop-up menu by pressing "Panel" on the SpacePilot. Double-clicking on the hammer icons for the command categories displays the commands.
Separate profiles are created for each SolidWorks environment and the number incremented for each new profile - ie SolidWorks Part0, SolidWorks Part1,SolidWorks Assembly 0. The editor currently does not have the ability to create custom profile names.
You can switch between profiles on the SpacePilot using the Config button. If you want to create a backup copy of your profile you can use SolidWorks - 3Dcontrol- Export.
If you are working in an application such as SketchUp or GoogleEarth that does not have an internal button mapping editor, you can create a custom profile name using Tools- Save As in 3Dconnexion Properties that will display on the SpacePilot LCD.
In SolidWorks, though, you will need to use the profile names the editor assigns.

You can assign "R" by entering it in the Custom Functions editor and giving it a name. When SolidWorks re-starts you will see your new command name added to the 3Dxware command category.The steps are listed here.
If any pre-defined functions do not work the way you want, you can create your own with Tools-Customize-Keyboard. In Search enter the command you want - such as 'grid' and enter a keyboard combination for it. Verify that the keyboard combination works as you expect in SolidWorks. When you create a name for it in Custom Functions, then map it to a button it will work in the same way.
