SpacePilotPro - can only move in one axis at a time

Post by woates »

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

First in one program (Autodesk Navisworks) then in another (Google Sketchup) I can now only use one plane of movement at a time.

So: either orbit OR rise/sink, but not both, either zoom in OR pan left/right, but not both. As you can imagine, it's very frustrating.

I have tried updating the firmware, I have the latest version of 3DxWare, I have tried rolling back to older versions, I have tried using a SpaceNavigator. I've tried completely uninstalling 3Dxware and re-installing it. No joy.
Weirdly, the other desktop in the office (much lower spec, can't use it for bigger Navisworks models I'm working with most of the time) doesn't have this problem.

Any ideas?

Dominant Mode?

Post by Mavortius »

It sounds a bit like dominant mode...did you make sure you turned that off?

Further information: each application has a configuration file that saves changes made for that application. You may have inadverdently selected the mode that chooses one axis at a time ("Dominant" or "Single Axis Filter"). The top button on the right side of the SpacePilot Pro toggles this filter. Try pressing it again when your application is in focus. In addition, there is an icon at the top of the LCD that is red when this is disabled (no filtering), green when it is enabled (filtering).

Ha! Thanks guys, it was dominant mode - but it wasn't showing up on the pilot pro screen which was throwing me.

I've re-mapped the rotations, dominant axis, and translations buttons, and somewhere in there the screen display seems to have reversed itself.
So when dominant axis is turned OFF (unticked in App Configuration) it shows as ON on the screen. And when it's ON (App Config) it shows as off (Red) on the screen. Weird.
