PN number mis-match

Post by Locutus3d »

Hi, I got the Space Navigator as a Christmas gift from someone who purchased it at Amazon.com
I was looking at the PN number on the tag attached to the USB cable and it doesn't match the PN number on the box.
Will that be a problem for me if ever I need to have it serviced under the 2 year warranty? Should I be concerned?

The number on the box says it should be PN: 3DX-700028 but on the tag it say PN: 3DX-600028.
Obviously, I want to make sure I have the most up to date hardware because that was the assumption when it was purchased.

Thank you.

PN number mis-match

Hello Locutus3d -

The serial number is on the tag attached to the USB cable beginning with PID. The PID number is specific to your device and is the one you would be asked for at technical support.

Thank you for chiming in Barbara but your answer to Locutus3d is not an answer to the second part of his post. ie most up to date hardware...

I too face the same;
retail box = 3DX-700028
tag on USB cable = 3DX-600028

1 - How do we find out build/fabrication date?
2 - Why the discrepancy between box and tag on USB cable?
3 - What is the difference between "700028" and "600028"?

Honesty and clarity are the only way forward in this digital age!!!

I appreciate meaningfull responses from anybody.

Hello Dinky Toy -

Each vendor uses their own part number on the outside of the box - ie 3DX-700028. These do not match the part number 3Dconnexion uses on the device - ie 3DX-600028.

The actual serial number is the one on the tag attached to the USB cable [PID#]. On some of the older devices the PID tag is on the bottom of the device. This is the number that is unique for each device and is the number used for support/warranty requests. The PID# does not appear on the outside of the box.The date of manufacture is encoded in the PID#.The encoding is proprietary.

The firmware version is shown in 3Dconnexion Properties under Help-About.

Hi geri_n.b,

the numbers starting with a 7 are the package and the numbers starting with a 6 are the devices it self.

You can find detailed information about our products on our website. For example the SpaceNavigator for Notebooks.
