saved settings

Post by Moog »

I'm using windows7 64bit, and NX software.
I have saved a custom button set-up etc.
I'm upgrading the computer, and in doing so, need to re-install windows.
Where can i find the file that contains my custom set-up, so i can put it back in after the re-install.
:?: :?:  thanks....

The 3Dconnexion button mappings are saved as .scg files. These are text format files where device settings and button mappings for most applications are stored.

1: Locate then Copy .scg files from:
C: --> Users --> [Username] --> AppData -->Roaming---> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare --> profiles

On new pc install driver then paste into:
C: --> Users --> [Username] --> AppData -->Roaming---> 3Dconnexion --> 3DxWare -->

If you just installed onto a fresh copy of WIN 7 You probable will not see the profile folder so just paste into the 3DxWare folder.

You can make backup copies of the .scg files or use them to transfer settings to a new PC, however, they will only be of use to transfer to a new PC using the same operating system as your old system. Transferring configuration files from XP to Windows 7 does not work correctly due to the differences in security between the 2 operating systems.

Some settings are indeed kept in the .scg files. Some settings, such as saved button settings for NX are kept in the registry. Just updating your operating system should not affect those. If you were to buy a new machine/disk, those would have to be exported and imported to the new machine.

thanks for the reply's.
For reference how would i export, and import the registry files ?
i don't think i'll need to this time, as the hard drive isn't being changed,
But soon i'll be building a completely new m/c.

Most settings are saved under HKCU/Software/3Dconnexion/<plugin>

You did not list the device your using.

The 5.7.2 driver was for the Spaceball 4000, 5000, Cadman, Traveler devices.
The driver was written for Win XP, It is not supported on Win 7 pc.
The saved profiles and registry keys most likely will not be recognized on Win 7 due to different permissions from the older pc.
You will most likely have to remap the buttons.

You can download the file from our download page.
you'll have to choose Spaceball 5000 Serial, and select show archive.

As stated this driver is no longer supported, and has not been certified on Win 7 OS.

i have the FLX5000 USB, I've been using 5.7.1 on this win7 m/c for a couple of years, no problems, but the other 2 m/c's we have are using the later software, which has never kept the button mapping.
If i can get 5.7.1 saved i'll be sweet..

5.7.2 is what i'm using...
I've got it installed on my m/c and i've copied all the stuff from program files, and saved the registry stuff i can find...
I've tried dropping all that into the new m/c to see if it'll work, but it says,
SPWIN.dll missing...
If i find this will i get it to work, or is the only way to have the exe file?

spwini.dll and siappdll.dll are in the windows directory.
It looks like you found an installer though, so you probably don't need this info.

I did find the .exe file i wanted, but it still won't work on the other m/c.
Our tech guy had a go at it and he gave up!
Both m/c's are win7 64. (we have a 3rd m/c also with the same problem)
It works perfectly on this m/c, but not the others.
Unfortunately this one has to be re-built, so i'll probably end up like them.
